Description
In this guitar lesson, I’ll show you how to play a harmonized lead (2 strings at the same time). I’ve provided the background theory in this lesson so that you understand how to find the major scale, how to stay within the same scale even as the chords change, and how to improvise the harmonized scale from the major scale in different positions on the neck. I’ve also included a bonus lesson on how to play the rhythm part, MP3 jam tracks and tab included.

Thanks for the very help full lesson Brian, It will take a while to sink in but it will be worth the effort. I have noticed these patterns in lessons I have done previously to joining Active Melody but they did not explain where they came from or how to use them in your own context. I am very familiar with the five positions of the minor scale but not the major scale, Is there a lesson on the major scale.
Thanks for taking the time to create this lesson.

Wow, really love this lesson Brian. Looking forward to being able to play this. You also put it in the context of understanding how to find these notes in any key. This will greatly enable to improve other songs I already do.

I watched part 1 on monday and I was lost as my cat, when me and wife go on vacation! I almost gave it up…. but I got thru part 1 and 2 yesterday- I am going to learn that major scale and use it—-I can see what you mean now about the seeing the neck and the scales in those different positions
it sounds great and I am not leaving this lesson until I can apply the harmonies and major scales in other keys
thanks

Wow. I did not realize that you could slide any of the patterns back 3 frets to get to major pentatonic. I thought it was just pattern 2. This will take a 2nd looksee to get all theory but looks awesome.
Thanks

I see many comments for Harmonized Lead Guitar Lesson (Latin / Hawaiian Style) – EP157 were very positive.
I realize not all lessons are appropriate for every member. The free part was way beyond what I am looking for. For me, it seemed to jump around too much and was very hard for me to keep track of how to actually play the piece.
Apparently it was great for many, but this one was not my ‘cup to tea’.
I enjoy my membership and will keep on watching. Thanks.

Really appreciate this lesson. To me learning guitar is like a huge jigsaw puzzle where suddenly a couple of new pieces link and make sense of other bits. So I would say to the previous comment from emudgesr…………….just put the piece down on the table and some time soon it will fit right in with what you are doing. I still have a long long way to go but this lesson just took me one big step forward!

Awesome lesson, Brian! I am hearing these harmonized notes in so many songs now. Brown Eyed Girl immediately comes to mind. Adding the theory may seem boring to some but it is what makes your method so much better. Keep it up!

Brian,
Thanks so much for these lessons along with your music theory section. It makes it easy to hear and recognize the links to put together the links from other pieces of music I’m hearing. What an eye, and ear opening experience the lessons on your site have been for me. Just a fair amount of practice time with component and another musical door is opened. This is one time in my life when I can truly say, that this is money well spent for my Premium membership, because every time I log in I learn something new. Thanks again, I have a feeling I’ll be a member here for a very long time.
Most respectfully,
Earl

Looks like I’m a few years late on all the comments on here, but I’m working through the lessons in order. This one is worth it’s weight in gold.
The first 15 minutes of theory really helped me. I appreciate you explaining the “why”, not just the “how”.
