EP039 – Acoustic Original Played Fingerstyle

Description

In this lesson, you’ll learn how to play an original composition on acoustic guitar – played fingerstyle. I go into detail with both the left and right hands so that even if you’re new to fingerstyle guitar you can follow along. This can be played on steel string acoustic, nylon string acoustic, or even electric guitar. Be sure to download the tablature as a guide to help with learning.

One suggestion, maybe one of the next lessons when it comes to acoustic guitar.

    Best regards

I would like to thank you Brian for your teaching style. As apposed to other teaching sites you do not speak to us like adolescent kids aspiring to be rock stars. I have learned and already achieved much since becoming pig a Premium member and can not recommend you more highly . Again many thanks from an aging , miserable old Englisman.

Brian I have been all over the net looking at different artist and lessons. I’ve also been playing off & on since around 1963. I would like to brag on you and the teaching style you use. You make even complicated lessons understandable and you membership cost is unreal. Only thing I could recommend is for you to tell us what the name of the music is that you’re teaching. Thank for being here.

    Hi Brian,
Great lesson as always - though I am struggling to barre with my little finger (pinky) …any tips or is it just practice to build strength?
    Regards
    Kevin

It took me most of my day but I think I have finally got to grips with this now…and even the way I play it, it does sound rather beautiful!
Haven’t worked out a satisfactory way of ending the tune…as opposed to constantly looping it but I’m sure I’ll get there…thanks for yet another great lesson Brian

Hey Alain, I’ve never seen the electric version - I would think that it probably sounds pretty close to the same though.

Shouldn’t the first chord be written in B flat? There is no A sharp in the key of F, and I believe this is in the key of F.

A sharp and B flat are the same thing are they not?

Yeah but the correct way is B flat. Like I said, it’s in the key of F.

    Hi all at Active Melody,
I found that the ring finger was the best for the first A# chord, rather than the Pinky. It allows you to still finger the G note 3rd fret/6th string with the Middle finger and when you finish the cycle ont the F, the ring finger is in place on the 3rd fret/4th string. You just need to flatten the finger to be ready.
    Tell me what you think.
    Keep picking…

I too struggled with barring with my pinky as did Kevin GA.  I’m with you ArtistSeagull.  I find the ring finger worked okay (although my pinky does seem to naturally go there -it’s just not strong enough.
Thanks for the lesson Brian.  I just became a premium member after watching your videos for gratis for about a year.  Definitely worth the membership.

sena g - I love that romance. It was my first composition that I’ve learn on a guitar. But I like more John Clarke’s version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qzVTQyjkEw

Hi Brian, what a beautiful piece! I also found it easier to bar the first A# with my ring finger, using my pointer finger to bar the 3rd fret after that. Which, for me, is also a good position to start the Cm after that…

    Kind regards,

    Victor, Germany

I found it easier to bar the 3rd fret with my ring finger- then when it comes time to hit the low E on the 3rd fret I reach over with my middle finger. I knew I’d never get the strength in my little finger :<(
