Description
David Gilmour (guitar player and vocalist for Pink Floyd) is one of my all-time favorite guitar players and I’m actually surprised it’s taken me this long to put together a lesson showcasing his style. One of the reasons it’s taken me so long is because he has SO much depth, it’s actually overwhelming to try and boil things down to a single lesson. I suppose I’ll just have to do others. In this lesson you’ll learn how to play a David Gilmour style lead in the key of C, using the C major scale.

Brian, great choice using David Gilmour. May I have some more please, sir!
Ish
Hi Brian!
Thank you for this great lesson. It is full with typical elements of David Gilmour and I can’t wait to play with it!!!
Toni
(Austria)
I haven’t even listened to this yet, but I can’t wait to dig in!
We asked…Brian delivered!
Thank you!
Wow, Dreams really do come true. Thanks Brian. Awesome as always.
Oh and by the way, Brian; Which one’s “Pink”??!!
Jim C.
Weekend at Brian’s
Thanks for the Gilmour! I suppose there’s a place for Malmsteen-like speed, but I’ll take the melodic, ethereal sonic Floyd sound any day.
Can’t agree more jg21. Less is definitely more.
This is the kind of lesson worth taking the time to learn! Love it, yes… more please. Thanks Brian, great stuff!
Pre-bends, bends on bends, vibrato on bends. I love it even if my fingers don’t.
John
Thanks Brian. That was superb and definitely one of those lessons that left me feeling I’d made a quantum leap forwards in my abilities as a player.
If anyone’s feeling like they might want to be a bit adventurous and jam with the man himself, try looking up Pink Floyd’s Coming Back to Life on YouTube.
It has a few extra chords bu the rhythm part is quite easy. All the stuff in Brian’s lesson fits in here.
OK. 1.15pm here in the UK and I’ve been doing this for 5 1/2 hours. Probably ought to think about breakfast. :-)
Only 2 chords for Rhythm progression? Is there an example, key of C. F and C. Would like to see example of rhythm for instance to play through looper
Great lesson. Thanks
I love David Gilmour. Thanks Brian, another great one. More Gilmour down the line I hope.
Gene
Brian, another home run! Thanks for an outstanding lesson. Maybe at some point in the future you could do another D.G. lesson so we could string the two together.
Great lesson Brian, more please. By the way love the shirt…
Red hot lesson Brian, very well explained. Lazy Melbourrne Sunday learniing Gilmour licks, how good is that.
Yes Please!
THANK YOU MY FRIEND
Great lesson Brian, love the Floyd ,
blues.9
yes Brian, would love more David Gilmour, very melodic. Well done!
In addition to the massive and usual THANK YOU’s, I have to yell out….I got blisters on my fingers!!!! great lesson, and couldn’t stop jamming with it…….
be well, Brian!
Great. Love Floyd. Thanks Brian.
Wo…twice now the amazonaws.com files (for the SoundSlice) have totally crashed my Macbook Pro while they were downloading. Strangely, after I re-boot, I’m still logged in on ActiveMelody and everything works fine. It doesn’t seem to cause any harm, just a delay in order to re-boot. Am I the only person to experience this?
Simply awesome lesson, you were able to include key aspects of DG’s style……I have to say….I got blisters on my fingers!!!!!
Thanks Brian…
Love me some Floyd.
Thanks so Much Brian.
This is really addictive, as Brian says in the video. I love doing these 3-half step bends. I hope we get some more DG style.
Brian, you struck the pay-dirt of my soul on this one. I Love David Gilmore’s playing and this is like the juice of the fruit. I could play this one for hours. You Rock! Please…More Gilmore style.
That is a BRILLIANT lecture. You really did catch his signature sound and licks. I am looking forward to be reunited with my guitar Friday. Keep on the good work. I am definitively becoming a premium member.
as always great lesson goog mrlodies to add to our bag of tricks.. One thing I really have been meaning to mention, Thanks for not ALWAYS trying to sell us all this extra cd lessons packages. With you, I pay my small yearly premium membership and “wham” I have full access to all of your lessons, jam tracks tabs ect. I love the no pressure lessons. You are a great guy. The new set up is fun too. I can go straight to the slow walk through, find all that I can do by myself then come back and lissen, with my tail tucked between my legs, : ) and lissen to the Teacher ( that would be YOU.)
This might just be my favorite so far. For those of us that can’t shred (or have no wish to), I thank you, Brian!
Lessons like these, David Gilmore stuff, not to fast, goiing easy, gives me hope, thanks Brian.
Fantastic , thank you :) A more Gilmour lessons would be a real pleasure, so much to be learned from a master such as him.
Wow thanks Brian, can I be cheeky and ask for Marooned. I use David’s Sound on Sound signature effect on a GT-10, patch is downloadable to the device or get off YouTube for GT-10 and programme into it .Its worth it.
Another thing, of all the guitar programs on the net yours is the best ,Awesome!
Owesome! I wanna learn something like this for some time. Yes please, Brian, give us some more Gilmour style. Cant wait for more! Thanks a lot!
brilliant piece of music brian, you have captured dave gilmores passion for melody,i met him at a fund raiser for bill wymans mobile studio adventure back in july 1987,i found him to be a lovely person
this is my second time around, but this one is really good thanks man
Brian, you have caputured David’s/Pink Floyd’s sound. Awesome. I can’t wait to learn this one. Please do some more David Gilmour lessons. I would love it! Thanks, Brian!
Hey Brian: Great lesson. Let me add my request for more Dave Gilmour.
Great lesson! I hear A Great Day for Freedom 🙂
More Dave Gilmore?? Yes, yes, yes! PLEASE!! My favorite guitar player, gets sooo much out of so few notes, rather listen to this style of playing rather than any shredder! More, more more…
Superb! Thx for all the amazing lessons!
Just signed up as a result of this lesson. Well done… and would love more Gilmour lessons.
thanks Brian… great lesson… love David Gilmore style… more like this please 🙂
Really enjoyed this lesson Brian. It forced me to experiment with my delay pedal more since I normally only use it for slapback. More Gilmore would be good.
A suggestion: I think it would be helpful, especially for beginners, if you sometimes referred to the strings by their note name rather than “the one string”. You could mix it into the lessons. Everyone needs to learn the notes at some point, not just patterns and boxes.
Great lesson! I look forward to having more in the style of David Gilmour.
Excellent
left me Comfortably Numb,
more please master
How do I download the backing track to my iPhone or macbook when I click on the link below it just opens it on another page???
@Jay - if you RIGHT click (assuming you’re on a PC) and then choose “Save As…” you can save the MP3 file to your local hard drive. Or if you’re on a Mac you an hold down the “control” key and do the same thing
Thanks Brian expect my video of my attempt at this one
Great stuff Brian. I would love to see a special series of Gilmour.
Keep it up!
Well done !!Thank you Brian
Please create a lesson for the solo in Confortably Numb. That would be awesome!
Great….and awesome tone. Would love more like this…Thanks. It’s so nice to see an instructor be able to actually clearly show how to play something. Please keep up the great work.
Dennis
what is the chord progression? great job!
yep, definitely we want more !
please Brian, I beg you : more of this stuff !
Love this lesson. David Gilmour is the reason I picked up the guitar in the first place. Now if I can just sought out the tone…..
More Gilmour please ?
Brian
Been playing guitar for over fifty years and really enjoyed this lesson. I applied some other licks along with yours and really wowed myself.
Thanks
Johnny
Got the ‘rattle that lock’ cd for Christmas and have it playing in my car.. recognised this tune instantly.. a must learn! And to echo other comments the value of your lessons is outstanding.. more like this please 🙂
Yeah… Love this too… Must do some more Brian. Please don’t leave us hanging on the end of that last C note.
Brian, thank you for a great lesson, I really love it.
Please more, more of Gilmour!
Thanks,
Myvan
Brian, this is has been my favorite lesson so far. Great job of capturing the Gilmore style and putting it into simple context that most anyone can learn. In Part 1 you said that if you get enough requests, you would do more Gilmore style. I’d like to add my request and hope to see more of “The Floyd” sound in future lessons. Thanks for sharing your talents.
Gary L.
Hi Brian love this floyd track whats it called and which album is it from? Steve G.
Was curious also if this was excerpt from specific song and what chord progression. Wish my ear could tell
Hi Brian, this is real cool, please more of this!!!
Evening Brian, I agree with Gary L. That Gilmour lesson was the best yet… Put me on the lust. Kirt
Evening Brian, I agree with Gary L. That Gilmour lesson was the best yet… Put me on the list. Kirt

Great lesson, thanks
Hey Brian,
Thank you for the fine lesson. I too am not a terribly fast solo player and I appreciate and enjoy the slower, soulful, beautiful guitar solo style. This lesson fits my style! Now I just need to practice your version and enjoy👍
Jim
why cant yo down loads video? theshaker
More Gilmour, please!
Was browsing through lessons and found this. LOVE IT!!! This is worth the premium fee alone.
More like this please Brian.
Only recently joined having stumbled across your lessons. This is absolutely brilliant! I love how you not only teach the notes but provide the understanding behind why it works. I get completely lost (in a good way!) playing your lesson and then improvising my own licks based on the new knowledge and techniques – priceless. Thanks Brian. I see almost all the comments ask for more Dave Gilmour! Are there other lessons now done that I’ve missed?
Keep those lessons coming – Jim
More, more, more David Gilmour…pretty please. 😁👍
well…..ive just played this over a slow funky D dorian backing track…it fits perfectly…
thanks so much
I am so glad that I found ActiveMelody.com .The lessons are fantastic. After Years of trying to learn, Now thanks to Brian I can play guitar.
Are there any more David Gilmour Lessons other than these 2? They are great that is why I want more! lol
I just decided to take a stab at this one and found the pdf tab to be unavailable. Perhaps it is lost in the cloud somewhere.

It loads for me – you might need to clear your browser cache or even use a different browser.

Going back over old lessons and digging the Gilmour. Can we have some more please sir. 🙂
Glorious, I love it!! Such a simple melody and fairly easy to learn…but will take a lot more time to perfect and get those subtle nuances. That sus chord is so beautiful. Thank you for creating this lesson.
More Gilmour please Mr. Brian!!!!!!!!!
