Description
This week’s guitar lesson is a blues lead (with rhythm elements thrown in) that has only a piano as accompaniment. It’s always great practice to learn how to accompany a single instrument like this because it forces you to listen and compliment the other instrument. It’s a completely different dynamic than playing with a full band!

Now my Friday night is complete 🙂
Sounds like another great lesson. I love how you keep coming up with new ideas while staying true to the blues.
Thank you,
Michael
Really great lesson. Thank you Brian
Great lesson again
Sounds great Brian ! Can’t wait to dive in on this one.
Mike
Thanks, Brian, love the sound of this! Something I need with the added benefit of having the exact licks I’d like to play.
Another great composition and lesson. Thanks Brian.
Rick
I thoroughly enjoyed this lesson Brian. I was getting frustrated a bit trying to play to some faster fingering lesson in your library and then this comes just in the nick of time to make my weekend bright. Thanks so very much for the lessons as always. I’ve grown so much from when I first began with you and it’s always my delight to turn others on to your website. I know a couple friends feel the same since joining you. Take care. I hope one day I will meet you and buy you dinner or something. Till then, I will look forward each Friday to your lessons.
Hi Art,
Don’t want to distract you from the lessons, but there’s a Forum on the Active Melody website too, where we discuss lessons, post our music, including a Monthly Challenge where we generally all post our renditions of the same lesson. Lots of discussion of all kinds of popular musics too.
G/day Brian,
Ah! This is gold, mate. Love your work.
Thank you.
M.J.
Thank you again Brian for yet another follow throug with a truly useful lesson.

Nice one, Brian!

🙂 Can’t think of a better way to spend a rainy afternoon than a bit of BB.
ahh yes BB king take off yes! But forget the name of the tune , none in description.. this is so embarrassing! lol.. but i’ll be the first to admit i’m kinda newbie to much of the blues
Terrific! I love it!
Excellent Brian! I’m still trying to get my vibrato to sound as smooth as you. On a side note,…have you ever thought about trying a spilt screen format so we can see a close up of the fretboard and a smaller screen full scale shot of you and the guitar. I’ve seen that format used and sometimes it’s kind of a nice feature. Anyhow, great composition. Thanks.
Outstanding!!!
The fills are a great takeaway!🎶
Beautiful. But having difficulty downloading tabs on this one.
Ian, not sure what difficulty you’re having. you’ll get different results depending on the browser you use. If you use Google Chrome or Firefox and click on the “Download MP3” link, it will download the file automatically. Other browsers will try and play the file after it downloads (which is what you’re experiencing). So try RIGHT clicking on the “Download MP3” link if you’re on a Windows computer and then choose the “Save As..” option. If you’re on a Mac, hold down the “Control” key and click on “Download MP3”.
Another great lesson. Learning a lot with each new lesson.
Thanks
Ray
Slow + Sweet Licks = Perfect Guitar Lesson. Thanks Brian!
Great lesson. I have someone that wants to play the piano part of this with me and asked me if I have sheet music. Is it available?
Great blues jam tune.. going to enjoy this too!
This sounds like a take-off of some old blues tune ..is it bb or freddy king Collins etc.. i see no clue in the description ..i should know but johnny came lately to the blues! lol
Measure 18 , I remember in recent lesson you mentioned that is a BB king signature lick,, okay never mind lol
It’s not from a particular song that I’m aware of. Just something that sounded good 🙂
Brian,
Thanks for putting that lesson together when I am sure you has a thousand other things going on. It’s always nice to brake out the hollow body, thought you would of used the Byrdland for this one?
Thanks Again,
JJ
Hi Brian. Hey when did you get the cat? I was shocked this a.m. to see the beard missing. You should have given it another month or so. I retired four years ago and have not shaved since! Maybe next time the cat will leave it alone. Thanks for the excellent guitar instruction. Have a blessed day!
I remember blues jams did this at local bars, You said in description it is a mix take off BB king some jazz(6ths 7th chords ) really great lesson,, looking forward to part 2 but could you mention the name of the song and original artist you used to create this terrific lesson? tia
Brian, I have heard diverging opinions about the Epiphone. What is yours, especially compared to the Gibson you often feature?
Scott
I love the Epiphone, very comparable to the ES335 in my opinion.
Epiphone sounds great,,agree listening to it here again..Great feel and control you are an excellent player !
very nice lesson- muddy in the morning and B B in the afternoon. I keep bouncing back to the last Muddy quad- I can t get enough of it- and this part 2 is excellent- I often review previous lessons and just review using the slow walk thru- that is a very useful part of your lessons for me. thanks.
Great lesson with many “A-HA!” takeaways for this aspiring blues man. Thanks, Brian! Continued success and be well!
I really liked this lesson as it is very much at my level – the metronome on the slow walk-through as well as the speed of the slow walk though was really great
One question though – I wanted to practice at the same speed as your walk-through = could you let me know the setting speed for the metronome?
Thanks – I have found that with diligent practice it is possible to,if not master each lesson, to at least get a handle on each. And then…..another lesson!
But I do go back to favorite
P.S. I do appreciate how your lessons build upon each other at least to some extent – you have to be doing that on purpose and it does work!
Another Great Lesson Brian! A lot of great information. Love the B. B. King style. It takes me awhile to get them up to speed but the slow-walk through and the ability to adjust tempos really helps! Once again thanks.
Another Friday Master Piece Brian…you are incredible….
Their is a lot of very useful information in this lesson, thanks Brian.
Will Brian thank’s for the lesson,I’ve been practising just about everyday and the lesson’s that you been putting out, well all I can say is this I’ve been picking up every lick and chord very fast and now I’m learning all the other lesson that were hard at first,so I’m excited and overwhelm about the lessons that I just can’t put my guitar down,oh I just bought my self a Epiphone just like the one on lesson 215,boy o boy music hasn’t sound so good, but their is one thing I need is together with some good picker’s and really play, anyway Brian this is all good for me so I’ll keep listining and playing thank’s again, Manuel (themidnightdj) as Manny.
Great lesson. My wife plays piano, any possibility of posting a pdf for the piano part?
