Blues Boogie Rhythm Guitar Lesson (With Lead Part) – EP152

Description

This lesson was designed to help you with rhythm guitar. You’ll learn how to strum this up-tempo blues guitar boogie and how to keep your right hand in motion while delivering the chords and muted strums at the right time. To really improve your timing, practice this with the provided MP3 jam track. The jam track is just bass and drums, so you’ll be virtually playing in a trio, which forces you to be on your toes. I’ve also included a slower version of the jam track for those of you that feel the original (100 BPM) tempo is too fast.

      Hi Brian,

It’s been awhile since I have written….I have been lost in you tube but now I am found (again)….I have not been able to cut loose and feel like a guitar player until this freakin lesson number 152…..you are now one of the RHYTHM KINGS !!! Especially after my frustration in trying to get down lesson 151, this challenge allowed me to actually sound like I know what I am doing.
I said this to you a long time ago and it is still true, if not even more true….you are the only blues guitar teacher on the internet (and sadly yes, I have tried all 15 plus of them) that consistently cranks out high quality original Blues instrumentals in the context of a whole tune, not just a riff or two…

you are also the most economical…….I tell anyone that wants to listen about your web site….

(I am not giving up on 151…)

if you ever think about stopping, stop thinking about it….

      Rick

Hi Brian just the lesson for me ; love this thanks, more please. Yes Magic Sam is a great player how about something like his Sweet Home Chicago for next week? With a few variations you would surely be copyright safe with this number I know it would be very popular here. John Strat

    Holy Stratosonic Brian!
After last week’s “rocker” I was expecting to see a finger-picking acoustic this week. And then this!
ALL other lessons are now in a holding pattern! This one goes straight to the top!

I sort of feel sorry for all the folks aimlessly surfing around youtube trying to learn a lick here and there when they could be learning this!

    Keep these good ‘uns coming!

Thanks for your hard work on these!

    Jim

Magic Sam Maghett’s boogie is called “Looking Good” on his first Delmark album, West Side Soul. It came to be known as “Sam’s Boogie” (it may have been called that before it was titled for the record). There’s a live clip of him playing it at the 1969 American Folk Blues Festival on YouTube. Freddie King had a very similar one; it was known as “Boogie Funk,” but I also have a copy where the “N” in funk is replaced with a “C.” Great stuff!

really cool stuff!!! .. i play the D7 second position but use regular finger position in this case the index is resting on 2nd string 3rd fret ..so the ring finger easier to manage going to A on 6th sting index note C 3rd fret 5th string and ring easily makes it back to D ..all the time pinky stays 5th fret G string ( c note )..anyway great boogie tune thank you so much! love practicing with the mp sound tracks ,, i really am learning how to keep tempo more each day !

    Wow Brian et al,

This is a blinder and got me hooked; I’ve just been playing thrashing it out on my Martin and it sound great acoustically. I must confess like others to always be veering back to this when I should be practising the May challenge; and it just happened again tonight LOL………..but it does fill me with joy when I hit that groove and get into that happy loop!

Thanks also to Don for letting me discover Magic Sam and that funky guitar.

    Cheers Bri
