Hello, I wanted to upload a new video a few days ago, but unfortunately I had to realize that this function is obviously blocked by youtube at the moment. There is no reason for this, all previous videos are unobjectionable. I can only imagine that it could be some copyright accusations, or that other political “footprints” of mine on current topics give cause for “censorship”. (Which is unfortunately not an isolated case these days) But I hope that the problem can be solved in the foreseeable future, otherwise the question remains whether there might be other ways outside youtube to publish videos here? I would be grateful for any tips.

Hi,
AM only consumes links; the video rendering is actually done by your browser. Therefore, there are many alternatives to YouTube. Wikipedia will easily give you a list of the most popular ones. Vimeo and Dailymotion immediately spring to mind. Or Mastodon.File sharing platforms such as pdrive, kdrive, DropBox, pCloud, etc. also let you share videos.

Thanks for the tip Jean-Michel. If I really can’t use youtube in the long run, I will try one of these alternatives. But first I’ll wait and see.

Thank you Jola for the information about the blocking periods and the different ways to react. My problem is that I have not received any warning. My last post “Folsom Prison” was mentioned in the context of copyright, but was explicitly categorized as harmless. Anyway, I’ll wait and see and have already sent a request to youtube.

I once posted my old home family video as unlisted just to be able to share it with my family – and that was taken down without any warning, the appeal to YT did not help either. The reason: it showed young (about 3-4 years old) children playing in the bathtub. It never occurred to me that would be prohibited but sure enough, and I get it now.

I haven’t had a video blocked by Youtube in perhaps 20 years. But I almost never do cover songs, and if I do, I try not to mention the name of the cover song anywhere. The Youtube algorithm used to scan for musical motifs, like if you included the little intro riff from “Stairway to Heaven” in your composition, you would be caught….no matter what key or tempo you played it in. That doesn’t seem to be happening so much now, as I’ve been inserting some well-known riffs in some of my recent uploads, and they passed with flying colors.
So Dieter, I would try this: Change the name of your video and just re-post it.
Sometimes I wonder, how long will Youtube persist? Will it still be around in 100 years? 500 years? I was hoping my Youtube videos could be around long after I’m gone so that my descendants in the future could see what I was up to. If not, what is the best way to future-proof our videos?
