Hey Butch, guess what! I played the lottery today and…
The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

Hey, that is great news. My wife, 2 years ago won 1 million yen, which is about $10 grand, but it went towards attorney fees to settle something between family members. Oh well, you win some and lose some. What college is your daughter attending. I went to Black Hawk College there in East Moline/Moline.

Although I am not a beginner I have been playing for 50 years, I always practiced when I felt like , time permitting, if I didnt feel like practicing I wouldnt do it because what I found is if I wasnt in the mood I wouldnt learn anything, when i felt like I would practice for as long as I could, these days I practice every morning between 5 and 7 oclock, obviosly without amplifiers on…lol…………Alex

I just began in January, but I try to follow a structured practice. I tune my guitar by ear, check it with an electronic tuner. I then to do finger dexterity exercises on all six strings, and some alternate picking exercises. This takes about 10 minutes. I do about 5-10 minutes of strumming practice with different rhythms (usually with a left hand mute so I can just listen to the strum) – trying to get the strum “hammered” into my brain so I can continue a strum without thinking about it. I then practice strumming through common chord progressions from the beginning songs I’m working on – A,D,E; G,C,D; A7,D7,E7; D,G,A.
After that, I play (or attempt!) to play some songs, experiment and generally reward myself with some fun exploration. I like having a structured session, and it seems to be helping me make progress.

That’s awesome! I think if I had a more structured schedule, I’d be farther along than I am. I’ve been learning on my own for about 3 years and sometimes it seems like I’m getting nowhere. These days my schedule doesn’t seem to allow for it though. I usually practice different songs whenever I get the chance to sit down with a guitar.

I’ve been trying to do 1h every day (early before I go to work).
I’ve been working on Brian’s rhythm guitar lessons and I’ll jam through the ones I can play first as a warm up and then work on the one that I am currently trying to master. Do some general chord changing practice in among that.
I’ll then do a bit of the Blues lead course, a bit of patterns and then run through the licks I have learned so far. Some bends and vibrato as part of that.
I’ll then use the remaining time to try and work out part of a song by ear. I’ve got a couple on the go where I’m trying to work out the solo part. With varying degrees of success 😉
