I originally bought a Traveler thinking of the overhead storage size problem when flying. I soon discovered in use, and also through reviews, that the lack of body weight makes it difficult to keep the neck in an upright position, and your fret hand has to do double duty to support the guitar. One solution is attaching a length of para cord to the strap stud on the end of body and sit on it. By pulling on the cord the neck can be brought up to your preffered playing height. This turned my not so great purchase into a useful practice tool. Because of the small size it works really well in front of the computer while working on Brian’s great lessons.

Gibson SG’s are famous for drooping down like that as well. There are other solutions that I have seen that work a little better than what you mentioned. Do a google search on “Guitar Neck Dive”. You will see what others have done to fix that problem. The one that I liked was a small strap that clips under your belt and attaches to the guitar strap higher up than where it attaches to the rear of the guitar. This would require a small modification to your strap, but it looks like the best way that I have seen to date. It essentially prevents the back end from rising upward (keeping it low).

Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Thank you Michael –I didn’t know neck drop was a thing, and enjoyed the posts on all the inovative solutions. Now I have to curb my lust for the Gibson SG. So cool darn it, unless I want to deal with the problem there too. The para cord on my Traveler works well at the computer and the couch of course, but I think it is only an easy solution for a practice guitar like the Traveler when seated, as your own body weight is the counter. I suppose you could try it standing up and wrapping the cord up and over your shoulder or something, but I think you might just wind up hanging youself.

I bought a Journey carbon fiber folding guitar. It’s designed to fit into the overhead storage on planes. Being carbon fiber, it can also be used as a defensive weapon, for those planning to travel to certain countries.
