I am wondering if any of you folk who edit your own Tab can tell me if any of the programs allow the note name to be displayed. ie can you print out say 4 bars showing both the fingering in the usual manner but also the note that is played at the relevant position. Even if they transcribe as two separate scores or perhaps make visible by a change of view arrangement to swap between fingering and note to be played view. Also can it then name chords where they might appear by virtue of the score.
Also any advice on which software is proffered. Thanks JohnStrat

Hi Johnstrat,
Are you talking about something like the Soundslice tab viewer that comes with the lessons? You can write and edit your own tabs, or sound slices as they call it, right on their website for free. I use that quite a bit, I find it easy and very helpful. Generally, I don’t print tabs, I just view them on my computer. In order to print, you would have to upgrade your Free soundslice account to Plus for $5/month.

Yeh, that’s the only way I know to do it also. And even then, I’m thinking “life is too short for this”, better to just develop a photographic memory like Sunburst John.

I down loaded a free program about 7 or 8 years ago called
Guitar and Bass. It reads tabs and you can write your own with it.
It has a feature that displays a fret board and place the notes
not dots on the strings as the tab plays. For example if the 2nd fret E string is fretted in the tab it
will display the note F# on the second fret.I haven’t used it for a long time but it really helped me learn
the fret board. It also has practice tools for learning intervals
Scales and ear training. -

Jola and Steve Thanks. Steve your probably right. It will take me a little while yet I guess to be instantaneous at it. Im not far away but thought that perhaps tabing out things might nudge me along. Its frustrating having a naff shoulder and I was thinking of it as a way to pass some of my injury time and keep an eye on the ball. I see the consultant tomorrow so hope I will be considered on the mend fingers crossed. Hopefully only another ten days of a right arm sling.
Jola I like sound slice and its my first port of call when getting into a lesson after listening to Brian. But all these places keep wanting to take a small slice of income from us as opposed to purchasing. If it was an outright purchase I might have taken it up albeit a small sum. So thanks for the tip but like you I will use just the free service at least for now. Thanks for chipping in.
Kindest Regards

Hi Usernameinvalid. Thanks for this But I just did a download and my antivirus intercepted complaining it to be
INFECTED AND SENT IT TO QUARANTINE. Shame as I would like to have tried it out.

Sorry about that. I haven’t used it since my laptop running
Vista crashed many years ago. Good thing you antivirus interseped it.
It was a pretty good program.I’ve edited my post and removed the link.
