I’ve been playing for a couple of years now and doing quite well. I’m trying to push myself to a new level But struggling with ‘string vibrato’. I seem to have got into the habit of moving my fingers up and down the string, which I believe is wrong. Can anybody point me to a lesson which might help please. Thanks
Paul
Hi Paul, Brian has a micro lesson 050 on vibrato technique .
Martin
Thanks Martin
He also has a blog lesson about string bending and vibrato.
Thanks Richard
Watch some Youtube videos of BB King. Try to copy his movements. In the meantime, just do whatever works for you. Everyone does it a bit differently. Side to side on the string is how classical guitarists do it, because it works really well on nylon strings.

Thanks Very much
I find I do this at times too. On steel strings it gives a more subtle and less pronounced effect and I quite like it. If you do develop the sideways vibrato, I don’t think you should try to eradicate this current method from your playing as it gives you another way to express yourself. Unless you don’t like the sound of course!
Thanks Andy
Im finding that when practising and playing note for note very slowly its working for me that i add vibrato to each note played, Im trying to get it to that second nature state where it is done without having to think about it.
So far so good.

Thanks Billy
