Hello A.M. members,
For the September challenge I am posting a song I recorded about a year ago. ” Wicked Game” by Chris Isaac.
I believe it is characterized by its haunting, brooding and melancholy sound. I looped the beginning intro. Then play the lead with a flat pic using the minor pentatonic scale progression .
Thank you for listening. See if you agree with my description of this song..Don P.

Great playing and awesome submission. Excellent use of the looper pedal!

Good idea to loop your backing like that. I can see the brooding and melancholy aspect but also I thought the section from 1:10 to 1:30 sounded quite hopeful. Great playing throughout and I really liked the tone on your GS mini – how did you have the amp set for that and what strings do you use?

Hi Mike,
If I remember correctly I used a little reverb and chorus on my Fishman loudbox mini amp.
My peddle board has a Fishman platinum pre amp and the the ditto looper was used.
Strings on my guitar are 10 ga. Dr strings.Don P

Thanks Don. I bought a GS Mini about a year ago but have never been really happy with the sound. I’ll try to emulate your set up and see how I get on.

Great playing, but the whole idea of the challenges is put something new out there to challenge yourself. Your not the only one to do this, but I kind of dislike the idea of posting old video’s in the challenge. Now if you play the same song over again, that’s fine, but reposting an old video doesn’t qualify in my opinion. Read the rules for the challenge again.

Michael Krailo,
Interesting that you picked me to give your opinion on how the challenge is supposed to be and that I don’t qualify.
I have reviewed several A.M. members post this morning and many or most have been from previous past dates. Examples:
John ( charjo ) forum moderator, Manfred, others post of a gig they performed etc.
If growth is shown, why are you complaining?
I read the rules and no where does it state you cannot use a past video…I do not appreciate your comments.Don P

Hi Don , yep I 100% agree with you on the haunting quality of this tune .
Solid loop with the rhythm and your delivery of the lead was superb
And lastly ……wow ! what a tone from your acoustic 👌Martin

I read the rules and no where does it state you cannot use a past video…I do not appreciate your comments.I’ll discuss it with John. What if everyone posted old video’s for the monthly challenge? I mean no disrespect or to single you out. I just thought it was obvious that it’s no longer a monthly challenge if the video is from the past. I know we are pretty laid back and overly positive with commenting, but some things just need to be addressed. Again, don’t take this the wrong way.

Nice take on this tune, Don. It is a haunting melody. Good timing with the looper too.

Don I love that song and you and your GS mini did it justice.
I understand the point Michael is making but sometimes life gets in the way,
and press by time.
I did that myself a few times.
Once I was down with covid and I couldn’t make it.
So I used a past video, just wanted to make sure I was still participating.AndréM

I’m guessing that my point will end up falling on deaf ears. I honestly never noticed it in the past, but it doesn’t seem right to participate in a challenge with past recordings. If life gets in the way, then what’s wrong with simply not participating? There is no harm in not participating, is there? Maybe I’m missing something, I just don’t get it.

Of course we are supposed to come up with something new for the challenge every month, Michael. But what harm is done when someone posts a previous work? The challenge is definitely not in danger of becoming a repost event. It is no competition, there is nothing to win and I see all the posts as something that is offered to me for my learning and entertainment.
Don has contributed many original submissions over the years, his guitar playing has improved tremendously during his participation in the challenge, now he posted something old – so what. I enjoyed watching. If there still was the challenge champion- t-shirt, perhaps this post would not have counted, but you can think of it as a joker, if you must.Sorry for discussing this in your post, Don.

Nice playing Don, good use of the looper.
But you have to follow the rules.“ if you don’t eat your meat, you can’t have any pudding!

I don’t know, I was just messing with you. I always wanted to use the quote for something. No harm intended.

Don, thanks for sharing. I would not have seen this acoustic guitar version of one of my favourite songs otherwise. Great work in imitating Chris fantastic voice with acoustic lead playing! 👍🏽 it would have been much easier using an electric guitar, but anyone can do that. 😎 so, very well done.

I always look forward to your submissions Don and it was refreshing to hear this iconic song so well played against the looper.

My wife and I listen to that song often on Chris Isaak’s Greatest hits. Great job Don and fantastic use of the looper.
Nice to see it again and you should be proud of this one.

That was a beautiful rendition of a beautiful, and rather sad, song, Don – nicely done. – Mark 👍🎶😎

You made a great job of that Don. It’s a gentle arrangement but it keeps that brooding, almost desperation of the original simmering nicely through out. Kudos for the full performance, building the loop and then seamlessly going into the lead.

This is really an emotional song, Don, and I like it a lot. And you’ve come up with a very beautiful version of your own here, which really conveys a lot of that emotion.
And by the way: Reposting is better than not posting at all.
I’m glad to see everyone taking part in the challenges.Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom.
The next Meetup will take place on October 31For more information click here
I look forward to meet you.

That was very nicely played Don. New post or re-post doesn’t matter to me. Participation is the point. Anyway, nicely played.

I already apologized to him for waking up on the wrong side of the bed today in a PM. There is no harm in posting whatever you want. I’ll try not to be so serious next time. 🙂 Peace, love and happieness.
