Hi folks , my submission for this months “ play an emotion challenge “
I went with EP 448 Shady Grove ,with added fill licks.
This for me evokes a fun and happy emotion although with a subtle mystery to it .
Look forward to listening to everyone’s ideas for this month.Martin

Delightfully played Martin, you certainly gave it the Southern Appalachian feel. Those simple melodies from wayback always have a magnetic feel to me.

Excellent, Martin—to me, it sounds like the soundtrack to a classic Western. A very evocative melody and, as always, performed perfectly.
Thank you very much, Werner

Excellent choice and submission Martin. I picked up on the happy and fun vibe and the hint of mystery coming from minor chords. I enjoyed the old-timey feel of this – well played with a beautiful tone.

Nice picking Martin. And what a tone you got from that guitar too.

Wow, Martin. That was extremely well played. Timing was perfect and the bass drove the whole piece forward. I must have missed this EP, I have to have a look at this.
For me this creates an adventurous feeling, the German word “Aufbruch” comes to mind. I did not find a fitting English translation- not just departure, but a starting point, going into something new.
Anyway, very well done. 👍🏽 👍🏽Bluesige Grüße

That’s some top quality flat picking right there Martin. Oodles of Appalachian character and, yes, a feeling of happiness tinged with mystery. These old folk numbers are so good.
Don’t think I noticed the cutaway on your Faith before. It’s really neat. -

Loved it, Martin! You’re getting so good with the bluegrass and this song sounds like a must-know for flat pickers! And yes, I also love that subtle mystery to the tune, might give it a go one day 🙂

Amazing tone on your guitar, Martin – well played! We use to sing that song when I was a kid in Florida. Like this: I went to see my Shady Grove, standing by the door. Shoes and stockings in her hand, little bare feet on the floor. Shady Grove, my little love, Shady Grove I know. Shady Grove my little love, bound for Shady Grove! At least those are the words I was taught.

That’s some mighty fine picking, Martin. Sounds fantastic!! Gives me the feeling of troubled times with acts of derring-do. Great guitar tone and you were sailing right along while playing.

Well played at that brisk tempo. I love the Matty Groves version of this song by Fairport Convention on Liege and Leaf.
