As many have said, this was harder than it seemed. The old brain’s got to keep up the pace. I feel things got a little wonky, but that’s life isnt’t it. Enjoy!

And your old brain kept up, JFL – LOL. That was absolutely cool and fun. Really a pleasure to listen to you. Very well done.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

JFL, you sound great. Was it all off the cuff or did you rehearse the licks? Great finger picking man, I love it! pap

Thanks Pap,
I did spend quite a bit of time figuring out just what to do. At first just noodling around, then revisting past lessons, polishing up an assortment of licks to have ready.
So when the time came to hit record I felt prepared enough to just roll with it. So a mix of messing around, off the cuff, sprinkled with some recently reheased licks.

Great rhythm playing. You definitely added to the background structure with the percussion. You added a swing feel to it. Responses were well played and fit well with the calls. Looks like the old has become young again, likely practice. You kept the pace like an ace.

Oh man, JFL, that was fantastic! Definitely the coolest and smoothest performance I have seen so far and I’ve seen most of them. I loved the catchy fingerstyle rhythm and the way you travelled across the fretboard with the rhythm riffs and then did licks in the nearest area, total movement economy and control, not too mention all the awesome jazzy sounding responses! Thanks for showing us how it’s done 🙂

Really enjoyed this JFL. Cool, relaxed and obviously improvised off the cuff! Loved your mix of a single line and chordal approach, especially the little bass runs and harmonized parts. Also thought the fingerstyle technique gave the whole performance a more lay back feel. You just need to hire a more reliable cameraman/woman as I reckon he/she has had too many late nights! All the best!

That was fun … loved the alternating base notes and the slide down/out chord rhythm phrasing – Wished I’d have thought of it. Yours would be my pick-o-the-month. Thanks for the ideas.

Oh Man! That was a breath of fresh air! I like listening to you’re submissions as you so often take a different direction and this was no exception. Just a joy to listen too. The foot was tapping and I had a smile on my face all the way through. I hope you had as much fun playing that as I had listening to it!

Loved the really soft feel you got in the call response a real contrast to the original track while being very engaging

JFL, loved the walking bass line. Very unique. Great picking for sure. The half-step slides were tasty too! Bob

Very nice JFL! You played it Chet style with excellent timing and tasty licks. I know which lesson you gleaned a couple of those gems from. 😉 All those licks presented in EP185 sound so good and are a nice break from the pentatonic’s. Thumbs up on your performance!

JFL,
Great licks, recognize some of Brian’s western swing in there, plus, you’re a bass player. Tight throughout. Wow, nice work!Bruce
Just focus on the notes you DID get right . . . Frank Vignola

Love it, now this is how it’s done. You took the rhythm to another level. That rhythm just bounced along and was just as creative as your lick selection. Well thought out and such a pleasure to listen too.
