I suspect we all pondered on ‘what on earth to play’ to meet this month’s ‘Play Something with Feeling’ criteria.
I had to re-learn this one, having played it some years ago and then almost forgotten it, however I did remember it had a late-night ‘After Hours’ feel to it. So with a repeated plaintive riff and played in Drop D tuning to give it some depth, I hope it qualifies for this month’s challenge.Richard

Very cool, Richard, so well played. Love the effects you’re using. Are they all addded in the DAW?
I recently acquired a Fractal FM9 digital modeller. You know I rarely pick up my acoustic but I can play it through the Fractal and use every effect and Eq available, so it just may happen.

Your Fractal FM9 is a serious piece of kit John and you certainly achieve some envious tones from it.
Regards this latest piece of mine, having chased around using different mics, different modes and setting in my Ableton DAW, I’m always trying to find that ultimate tone that’s only a breath take away.
However this time I used the stereo line out from my Acoustic Amp with EQ, Reverb and Compression pedals in line. Finally just sweetened the mix in the DAW with very little adjustment.Richard

Drop D tuning really gives your track a different, interesting sound. And, of course, it’s perfectly in time again. Great!
Thank you, Werner

I’d call it after hours and chill vibes Richard. Almost had an ELP sound to it.

I like that repetitive Delta Blues riff. Love the rhythm and alternating bass.
Great embellishments with these hammer ons which you master so well.
The Drop D is such a haunting deep sound, I could listen to it all day.
Is this your own composition? Bravo, Richard!
Greets to Wendy.More Blues!

Glad you enjoyed it Denise, much as I’d like to lay claim to the composition, it alas is not mine but David Hamburger’s called Kerosine.

Really moody stuff, Richard – this definitely fits the challenge. It conjures up a slightly edgy late night drinking den, where things could kick off at any moment.

Love the Drop D, but this is exceptional without relying on the drone. It has mood, atmosphere and the sound you dialled in just makes it a feast for the ears. Awesome work Richard.

Richard
Well done… beautifully performed-clear, fluent and most of all you keep a consistent and steady groove so that you can keep pickin’ the melody. I have discovered David Hamburger and grabbed a few of his books on Truefire. There’s no better approach. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing.John

Oh, this one sounds really good. I have no idea what an after hours feel is, but maybe it’s hinting at the darker tone.
Root note patterns >>> CAGED shapes >>> TRIAD'S. Just put in the work and watch your guitar skills soar.

In my ears it’s an uplifting piece, Richard. Well played and definitely something you could use for late night. But I can listen to this all time of the day.
Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom.

Loved this moody Drop D blues, Richard! The repetitive Delta blues riff added to the hypnotic vibe and your steady rhythm could putt the audience in a trance … like a poetry late night … until the dawn of light… 😉

Down and out, on my last dollar, and plodding down the road………that’s the message I got from this after the first few notes. Super cool, super moody–hypnotizing! Another great acoustic solo, Richard. Flawless!

Great job Richard, very old school Western feel!

Terrific playing Richard. This has an almost hypnotic feel with that deep bass line and the repeated riff cycling around. The precision of your bass line picking is to die for. It feels like you’re holding it back, just behind the beat, but it’s absolutely where my soul wants it to be.
Very relaxing and chill vibe which would fit perfectly with a late hours club. Think I’ll just order another Bourbon -

Nice one Richard. It’s all about the tone and the precision of the beats. The reverb gave it a nice vibe.

Hi Richard, drop D is always a good choice for richness and feeling. That repeating triplet melody drives the energy. Beautifully played as always with your submissions.
