I had never heard Ronnie Earl. His whole band is hot. The organ player is super good too. He has a very nice playing style.
Thanks for posting this.
Ronnie Earl is a great player, makes those vintage Fender amps sing like none other. Blues or Jazz, he can do it.
Its interesting what one can hear on Youtube these days.
To expand what I listened to, I used to get Guitar Player and Guitar World on a regular basis and if I saw a name that I wasn’t familiar with, I would either try to buy a new/used CD or try to find it in the library for free. If a major player like Clapton or SRV mentioned them as an influence, I would pay particular attention to them.
I would also look at the name of session players and research if they had released any solo efforts and what projects they’ve worked on. That’s how I learned of Johnny A and Brent Mason.
Another great source is public and college/high school radio stations because they don’t necessarily play what’s popular. Most will have a blues and/or jazz show that will be 3-4 hrs long which will give you a long play list
By doing this, you break out of the molded thinking that marketing ploys want you to hear on popular radio.
