Ronnie Earl is my all-time slow blues hero, and lately I’ve been studying and practicing his style (yes, he has a distinct style). He very seldom plays an acoustic guitar, but today I ran across this example. The video is good enough that I can easily copy and absorb some of his licks. Check it out:

Thanks, Steve, you got me off to a good start this morning. He did an interview at the same time which looks to be about 2007 or 2008.

              Thanks for posting Steve.
Never of heard this guy before but enjoyed his playing and will search out some more of his stuff.
Great players have the gift of making it sound easy. Thought it was Uncle “bad to the bone” Bryce in disguise at first.

              Thanks again

Ronnie Earl has been kind of camera shy throughout his career, so it’s hard to find good quality videos of his playing on Youtube. Plus he had some health problems which kept him from performing for quite a while. He wrote a blues tune for his doctor – “Blues for Dr. Donna” – which is the slowest of slow blues, and includes a lot of his signature licks. You can listen to it on Youtube, but there is no video.

He has a great and that Martin is sure doing it’s job to. I would love to learn more of this style. It is not complicated or fast. as Brian said it doesn’t have to be but better to play from the heart and to make it talk. And to me it sure shines in this style,
                    Gary.

Hi All, Thanks for this Steve. You have found a great video to get some licks from and a wonderful bit of playing. I recently viewed this… https://youtu.be/BRqhTnwTkJk … which is a masterpiece of his playing with Ana Popovic live at the bull run. not so good for the finger viewing but a must listen for blues fans in my book . Thanks for posting

A quiet virtuoso in a loud jacket.. But yes, fabulous Blues right there. Enjoyed a lot, thanks Steve.

I am curious what strings he is using because the bass just jumps out on that guitar? That is one special musician and guitar. I would imagine that part of the tone may be from the DAW but who knows? Thanks for sharing this because I could listen to this over and over and will,
                                Gary.

One characteristic of his style is that now and then he grabs one of the bass strings and actually pulls it upwards, producing a loud snap/thump. He says he does it to wake up the audience.
