I’m going through a course on phrasing and a major topic is repetition and repetition with variation to give the listener’s ear something to latch on to. Not only that, it’s makes it so easy it’s almost like cheating. This just a little taste. I’m branching out to the full minor scale these days.

That’s some solid phrasing John.
Root note patterns >>> CAGED shapes >>> TRIAD'S. Just put in the work and watch your guitar skills soar.

Thanks, Ben. That’s through my Katana Artist with my strat neck pick up. I’m waiting on a Fractal FM9, I should really be testing some tones when that baby arrives.

I had the same thing happen Andrè…until I saw the X in the upper right corner of the login prompt to close it.

Seems to open on my whole Souncloud page. It’s the top track, “Smooth Healing F minor”.

Wow, that’s really nice and that repetitive phrasing never gets boring – mellow. Great playing all the way through.

Some nice work there John with a beautiful lush tone. I think the repetition works really well in certain circumstances. Your example played an attractive and relaxed feel to the refrain which to the ear is welcome and acceptable. This repetition can often become a Motif, which the listener is expecting to hear throughout the piece. Another much shorter example is typically in the blues, playing an ABAC sequence where the ‘A Call’ is often repeated for emphasis.
Good topic John,Richard

This sounded wonderful John. I like repeating licks to create a motif and melody. My problem is I don’t vary them enough (or at all) and the piece sounds boring. You, however, did an excellent job!

Very nice,John. The tone fits the sound of the backing track perfectly. I particularly like the use of the small pauses. Very tasteful. And applying the repetitions you mentioned works indeed. I got to try that out next time I solo.

That is some gorgeous playing there John. I will say the chord section for the first part of this, while beautiful, does get monotonous but you picked up very nicely with the lead section at the end.
As for playing in the minor scale. That’s the best scale of all and my ear always gravitates naturally to that sound.
A masterclass overall.

Great soloing, John! The repeated phrases with small variations work very good in this case, especially when they’re played as you did: with great expressiveness, a smooth touch and with such a a beautiful tone (a gift for the ears)!
