OK hi all! I am looking to record audio on computer so i can share my progress in guitar etc..

        Speakers
        Micrphone
**I am nervous to download any software to my puter- any suggestions appreciated 🙂
LAME- http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/lame I amnot sure what this is-has anyone heard of thisprogram ?? I didnt open it myself just posting it to see if anyoneis familiar with it . Suposed to help with exporting recodings in mp3 format.
Audio software also by *audacity which is windows and mac compatible. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
TY to all ahead of time and i will keep looking and researching as well. See you all around AM .

Audacity is a GREAT freeware program. I use it a lot.
Often, I will use it over Ableton when in a hurry 🙂

“Lame” is the mp3 encoder used by audacity….they work together.

The next thing you have to come up with is an “interface” for your guitar to computer “connection”.

Brian can get you going, this stuff is right up his alley

Hey Dawn, Audacity is a great open source audio recording solution. It allows you to record multiple tracks and edit your audio as well – not to mention it’s hard to argue with the price tag of FREE.. No need to be nervous about installing it – I’ve installed it on several computers and never had any issues.

The real challenge will be how you get the signal from your guitar into your computer. The easiest way is to buy a digital interface that allows you to plug your quarter inch guitar cable directly into the interface (and then the interface into the computer). I’m a big fan of the M-Audio brand for that. In fact, for all of the jam tracks that I create, I use an M-Audio Fast Track Pro (you can get them for around $200, just Google it) – it works great and doesn’t require you install any cards or anything.. just plugs in via USB, so it’s a super simple set up.

If you’re using an acoustic you can plug directly into the M-Audio box, but if you’re using an electric, you’ll want to use some kind of processor (effects pedals or processing unit) that will both boost the signal and apply the effect you want. So if you want a little over drive, you would use an over drive pedal, etc. I’m not sure what your set up is at home, but I can help you with the details.. and yes, 2fngrjoe you are correct – this is definitely up my alley.

TY every 1 -it’s good to know that audacity is a trusted site. By reading your posts its seems that i would need a connection from my guitar to the puter – In that case i would need to upgrade my guitar b/c I have a non-electric acoustic guitar.( I will admit i will pick up my sons first act guitar, lol .
Thnx so much for the input . Dawn

                I’m a cheapo 🙂 $99 …..and I won’t be starting a Guitar Instruction Website anytime soon.

                PODSTUDIO GX

                GX at Best Buy

Interface and effects box all in one…..cool little gadget. (just 1 input though)

I use Audacity. I usually mic the amp and run it into the computer and record that way. Easy for me.

The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete

It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

I gave a talk to a Seniors Computer Club about Audacity. Lots of video on how to install & convert their “gramophone disks” to CD. I gave a warning that it can be downloaded from various sites but Sourceforge would be the best. I also warned them that on installing, uncheck any boxes that included tool bars or other additional unnecessary items. I thought I’d covered all my bases but the next week a guy came up to me & sarcastically said “Thank You very much, I’ve spent all week getting my computer back to the way it was because of all the CRAP the program came with.” Some times, you just can’t win !!!

Mike, do you use Reaper, also.

I sometimes go in the ninjam room on it. Have you ever jammed in the ninjam room on Reaper with other people.

I tried Reaper a long time ago, not so much for recording but for sequencing. The way the program functioned was so different to what I had been using & I didn’t want to spend a lot of time relearning a recording package that I just dropped it. I’ve been using Mixcraft for the last couple of years & I’m really happy with it. It’s like Garageband for Windows & has lots of features but is very well priced (I paid $75.00). I haven’t tried nor even heard of Nimjam. I might just check it out. It could be a great way for Activemelody members to get together for a Jam session.
                        Cheers

It’s pretty cool. Many people from Australia use it, or at least I’m on when they are on.
