I’ve been on the look out for a new guitar recently. As much as I love my Yamaha Pacifica 611, the fret sizes and fingerboard radius aren’t quite to my liking. It plays well for the most part, but I often catch other strings when doing full bends (something I’ve never experienced with other guitars). I’ve also struggled to play as fast as I’d like compared to when playing my PRS.
I’ve been looking for a guitar with p90s, medium jumbo frets and no tremolo bar, and preferably something stripped back and bluesy.
A colleague had a Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute for sale and I couldn’t say no.
This is my first ever Gibson and it plays like a dream. It’s not as versatile as my Pacifica, but from what I’ve played so far, it seems a lot more to my requirements.
In terms of value for money, the Pacifica definitely wins, but in terms of playability, the Gibson seems like it’s the better of the two (but time will tell!)

That’s an awesome looking guitar Ben. It’s hard to see the fret condition from the photo, but I assume you checked that out really good. That’s the thing I hone in on in addition to the overall playability.
There is a trick to doing bends without getting interference from the other strings by using your first finger to wedge between the string you are bending and the one’s above it. I used that all the time. It just doesn’t work for first finger bends. The string action adjustment has a lot to do with how your fingertips catch those other strings as well.
In the following video, the guy shows how to mute all the unwanted noise from those strings as well. I usually don’t do that, but it’s another technique that might work well for you.
Root note patterns >>> CAGED shapes >>> TRIAD'S. Just put in the work and watch your guitar skills soar.

Yeah the frets are all great, thankfully.
This video would have been useful a couple months ago! I really struggled with the solo on my John Mayer cover because of this. Changing the strings helped a lot but still, it’s annoying to have to change your technique for one guitar specifically. I think it was the very flat radius was part of the issue but I think I should mess around with the string height some more, perhaps

That looks beautiful Ben. I like my LP but I think my favorite is my PRS. I would love to get something with P90s but I think my wife would divorce me if I brought yet another guitar into the house! 😁

Fortunately my wife is an enabler. All I have to do is mention a new guitar and she thinks of reasons why I need to have it haha. It’s dangerous
