Martin has “refreshed” the Standard series of dreadnaughts for 2025. The last revamp was in 2018. The new Martin D28’s are supposed to be closer to vintage specs of the “golden era”, late 1920’s to 1942. The bracing is forward shifted and scalloped, the fingerboard is slightly thinner and rolled. The nut is slightly angled, the neck is a little thinner. The volute is lengthened and the heel is slightly sleeker and the bridge is modified in shape. The bridge pins and nut are bone.
Here is a comparison of the HD 28 reimagined (2018-2014) vs the HD 28 2025. Which do you prefer?

The two Martins were very close in tone, however I thought the ‘Reimagined’ had marginally more ring with a slightly thinner sound. Probably would cut through a band situation better.
The 2025 version sounded fuller with more middle and bass response and to my ears sounded marginally louder. (Given the mic set up was the same)

If I played in a band I’d pick the Reimagined model. As I play solo most of the time, I would prefer the fuller sound of the 2025 model.

Richard, I knew you would be interested in this.
I love the warmth of the older series but I really like the clarity of the notes along with the full bass response in the 2025. I think the newer model would make a great all around guitar.

To me, there’s no contest. The new version wins, hands down.

I thought this was a NGD video. So are you getting the new one John? I thought it sounds a bit better but they both are great.

I must admit, I’ve got the bug. There’s a good deal on some returned older version D35s at my local dealer but nobody has the new model yet.

I’ve got an old D35, I bought it in Las Vegas Music 28 years ago. If the deal is right, I’ll pop over.

Sure, pop over Richard. You’re welcome anytime.
