I tried this lesson a few weeks ago and could not play it at speed.
I had left this lesson alone and moved on to something else and today it look like
I can play it at speed.

Michael I think I still have the bouncy picking hand. Maybe it has a little less bounce I’m not sure.

Obviously, it has improved. So good job getting that up to speed. Over time everything is going to improve even more if you stick with it.

Thanks for all your input.
I did practice it every day for a week after the last one then left it alone. My brain much of taken a while to process things and then I could play it at speed.

So now that maybe my new practice routine.

This sounds pretty good Brendan. My only question is are you lying down playing this? If so, then that, right there, is why you might be struggling with speed and fluidity.

I was waiting for someone to mention that.
It is the gropro camera angle, my camera man didn’t tighten the bolt and this is the result.

I think what Geoff is talking about has nothing to do with the camera angle directly. Your guitar is at an abnormal angle referenced to your body, so Geoff’s observation is correct. If it’s in a good position it will feel more like you cannot even see the fretboard. You don’t even have a strap on which makes it easier for the guitar to slip out of position.

Just put your go pro camera on a tripod and shoot a normal video angle of you playing with a face on view. This is to help you, not us.

I’m sorry Michael this time you are wrong.
Same chair same sitting position as I have done for last 3 years.
Same way I hold the guitar.
It is the camera.

You may be right. I just took a snapshot of your video and rotated it so the guitar was upright and it did look OK. So that was just an illusion from the camera. Good work on your progress so far and all the best.

What also comes into play is the camera has a fish eye lens and when the camera is not lined up correctly it has an effect on the end result.

Hi Brendan,

Speed picking is definitely my achilles heel. I have had very good advice that minimization of movement of the pick is critical. The more the pick comes off the string the slower you’ll be. Getting the minimal movement requires extreme relaxation of gripping the pick, ie. barely holding it. The faster you want to play the lighter you’ll also want to attack the strings.
I still have a lot of work to do in this department, just passing on what I’ve learned.

Yes, thanks for that.The faster I want to play the more tention I seem to get get in my picking hand.
I do have to learn how to relax my picking hand. Not sure how to do that.
