This style is all played in one chord. You drone the base string and make up licks on the up strokes. I was doing this at 135 BPM

Wow, you are the real sliding man. Is that in open F-tuning?

              Thankyou.

Yes I was taught to play that style in open F for the response of the loose strings.

That was great man, I’ve never heard of open F tuning before.

Really cool! Open F? I guess you tune the E strings up a half step, then the middle strings down. Maybe the B string tunes up also. But I would think looser strings would be less desirable for slide work.

Thankyou…it is just like open G but all the strings are tuned down one interval. It is an A shaped chord. From thickest to thinnest string it is CFCFAC. It takes a lot of tension of the strings and creates a unique sound.

Actually you take open G and go down one full interval on each string.

This reminded me of Break Train Blues do you know if that was open F first time I’ve heard of it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=Vu0XQVS9GCE

I tried to learn Break Train blues a while back. But I could never get that shuffle thing he bases it on quite right so I kind of made up my own. It is very similar to what I am doing here. Break Train Blues is in open G. Almost everything this artist does is in open G.

This was my feeble attempt at his song.

The version this guy is playing is. This was one of the downloads I did to attempt to learn it. But Krbi is playing it in open G…open the youtube link and read below it. He tells you what key he is playing it in. Under the video at the link…

The looser strings in open F actually make this groove easier to play.

Thanks Roger I see he tunes to open g then drops all strings a tone to open f there is also a comment about only using strings 135, watching the cover version he also appears to change tempo with the thumb on 5 at times.
                                  Happy picking to you Odin

In any A shaped chord your 5 string is your base. That’s part of how I tell a tuning by watching someone play. If I see them keep striking the 5 string I know they are in either open G or open F, if they strike the 6 string I know they are in either open D or open E tuning.

All licks are interchangable between Open G and Open F. And all licks are interchangable between open D and open E tunings. They are just played in different keys.

If he is playing in Open F rather than G it might be why I struggled so hard to get the shuffle down. But my licks on the 1 string did match what he was doing when I was in G. I play these things through Transcribe software so I can loop them where ever I want and slow them down as much as I need to. But he plays that shuffle so fast that even at 20% speed I couldn’t make out exactly what he was doing.
