I PUT THIS SONG OUT TWO NEARS AGO AND WASN’T HAPPY WITH THE MIX. THE LEAD GUITAR WAS WAY TOO CLEAN AND BOINKY. I FINALLY HAVE TIME TO GO THROUGH MY OLD TRACKS AND MIX THEM RIGHT. I CUT ALL OF THE HIGH END AND SOME OF THE MIDRANGE AND IT SOUNDS MUSC BETTER.

MY FAVORITE PART OF THE TRACK IS THE DOUBLE ACOUSTIC GUITARS. I HAD JUST PUT NEW STRINGS ON BOTH OF MY MARTINS AND THEY BOTH SOUNDED AMAZING. I REMEMBER VERY WELL LISTENING BACK TO THE JUST THE ACOUSTICS THINKING “THEY SOUND ANGELIC”. I MIGHT PUT UP THE TRACK WITH JUST THE ACOUSTICS BECAUSE THEY SOUNDED SO GOOD.

I MAY REDO THE LEAD PART SOMEDAY AND ADD SLIGHT OVERDRIVE. YOU CAN HEAR DICKIE BETTS HAD JUST THE PERFECT AMOUNT OF VERY SLIGHT DISTORTION.

        MARTIN OM-42 RIGHT CHANNEL
        MARTIN OOO-28EC LEFT CHANNEL
        GIBSON ES339

        THANKS FOR LISTENING,
        RALPH

Brilliant Ralph. The mix is truly beautiful and you are something of a master i think.

It must have taken a long time to get the lead down. Had a go at it once and gave up – was just taking me too long to get the timing down.

Always a pleasure listening to you Ralph 🎶.

Thanks Geoff. I’ve always had a good memory, especially for music. When I played in bands, as bass player or guitarist, I usually had to remember about 40 songs, so I’m good at remembering songs. I know you sight read very well, but there’s a lot to be said for playing by ear too. Just as reading gets better the more you do, so does ear training.

The trick to learning songs like this is to internalize them. I knew the song so well from hearing it 100 times before I even attempted to learn it.

Keep listening to Melissa, and try it again. I know you can do it!

(It is also one of the best acoustic guitar songs of all time. Just lays so well on an acoustic, and has those ringing chords that almost sound like an open tuning. Gregg Allman did write it originally in open tuning.)

You are right Ralph. I should give it a try it’s just that I lack patience memorizing stuff.

Ralph, the acoustics are terrific and I have no complaints about the lead tone. Great to see you getting so involved with music again.

Thanks John. Acoustic guitars love it when you play Melissa on them .Just makes them feel good. They also love to play Here Comes The Sun.

Two other songs I used to love to play on acoustic were Babe I’m Gonna Leave You and The Rain Song. Both are a LOT of work, but acoustics love them.

Hopefully I’ll get my hands into good enough shape to wrestle with my acoustics again.

Ralph, that was terrific, such a nice listen. You’ve got a great voice for this song as well

Thank You Ken. I didn’t do the vocals, just the guitars. The vocals were already on the backing track. Wish I could sing that well.

Thanks Helen. Glad you still like it. I finally have time to go through all of my old recordings and mix them right and add reverb, eq, etc. I was always too busy before and just recorded songs and put them out. Working was such an inconvenience to my music stuff. It’s so much fun to get back into playing again. Missed it so much.

Thank You Mike. One of my favorite ABB songs. The singer is pretty good, bur Gregg Allman is my favorite blues singer. The man had so much blues and soul in his voice.

Sounds almost as good as “Blue Sky”, Ralph. 😀 Wonderful mix on the guitars.
