Just so I can have some versatility, I am looking at Reaper. So far, hearing and seeing a lot of good things about it.

I use Reaper. So far it seems pretty good. It took me a while to figure it out but I am really tech challenged when it comes to these things. I have read that Reaper is supposed to be one of the more user friendly DAW’S. Let me know what you think or if you have any questions, I have learned a little about it even with my lack of technical knowledge…scott

@scotty117 Thanks man, probably will do that. Right now I am watching the tutorials on it. I just started on these and I am just finishing the “create a new project” one.. I also hit the “notify” on this thread as I am sure I’ll be back here a lot in the next few days.. lol

I use it and really like it. Took me awhile to learn the over dubbing (punch in and out). I still use audacity to convert my songs to mp3. Hell 60 bucks for life you can’t go wrong. My “Hotel California” and “Can’t you hear me knocking” were what I finally learned to do with it. One was 13 tracks and one 15. I haven’t done anything lately due to looking for a vocalist. Also trying to line up a drummer. Hope you have as much fun with it as I did. Look forward to hearing your recordings. I know you can play the stew out of that guitar.

Thanks Doug! Back at ya bud! Man, got to say, very impressed with it so far. So much easier than what I am using now. I am about half way through the videos. Looks like it has a lot more effects than I have too.
What I will do, just for practice using it, is, I had added strings and orchestration to the moon song I did. So, I will use those tracks to practice with and post what I mix out of that.
And yea, man, you keep it cooking too! we will have to do another tune again soon..

Hi Everyone,
I have used Reaper a little – with my PCs – but really like using Garage Band (on a Mac).I tend to use it mostly at the moment to convert WAVs to MP3, but I have been seriously considering switching my focus/energies to Reaper.
However, I have not looked at it closely enough to know if one has to buy (or find free) third party VST plug ins to cover the amount of content of that sort that comes with Garage Band. That would be the only disadvantage for me in switching to Reaper, as GB seems to be a really good all-in-one solution.
Am I right in thinking that there are very few plug ins and loops in Reaper?
Thanks,

Actually just the opposite really.. seems like there are tons of stuff that comes with it and a whole lot more that can be added. I am just getting started, but, looking at the forums, you can find almost anything you want for it.
suppose i should have posted this before.. here is the link to the site..

Thanks for posting a link to the Reaper forum. I had no idea there was one. I should have figured there was an online forum but never thought to look. This would have been a great resource to have months ago when I was pulling my hair out trying to figuring it out. I will definitely be using this resource from now on. Thanks…scott.

As well as a great forum & JS plug-ins (included in Reaper) don’t forget to look at the vids,Which are free & and very informative!
Good luck.

Well, I think I have it were I am now dangerous with it.. lol Pretty intuitive as for the work flow of using it. I also had to install both versions, the 64 bit and the 32 bit versions. This is only because I have 32 bit DXi plugins that I like that came with RealBand by PG Music. I also have SampleTank 2.5 which came with RealBand bundled, but, that is 32 bit as well. The orchestra strings in that is pretty nice..
Now, I will begin to remix Moon Watching as an example project just to see if I can clean it up. The stuff I recorded in RealBand can be tweaked in Reaper a little easier.
If anyone has any plugins they like, please mention them here. I want to know!
Also, what are those extensions that they have, SWS?? I don’t see any descriptions about what that is on the site.

All I can say is WOW! What a difference! I am sold on this software. Here is a remix of Moon Watching with added Strings and cleaned up in Reaper. Just love how the editing works in this…
In this version, you can clearly hear all the parts, such as the bass line. My older version, it was extremely muddy, very hard to distinguish. The Strings are a little in the beginning, backing the lead guitar and during the end. During the ending, different strings start after each progression, i.e., Orchestra Strings, then violins, then a cello .. It’s subtle, but, there..
