I am very much into learning different nuances of these greats! Lightning Hopkins has a very definitely groove which you find in a lot of his songs. Some bass magic. I am wondering if Brian might be interested in teaching this particular method? Or where I might find a helpful lesson. Thanks in advance….CC (logging many hours here at Active Melody and loving’ it I might add…<3)

Hi CC, Brian appears to have accredited only one lesson to Lightning Hopkins EP088 but there are more appropriate AM lessons which I believe are closer to his style; Have you checked out EP145, LEG004 and LEG005. I was drawn to this style of guitar and found these lessons useful and fun to play solo.

Hi CC, here’s a collection of Lighnin’ Hopkins’ music (this is a playlist, click all the way through to YouTube to access it). Be sure to check out the yellow-labeled Heralds! There are albums and other related info in the description area.

Good for you, CC. I’ve learned a lot by binge-studying various old blues masters. It’s a great way to learn.

Thank you guys! Most helpful ideas. Trying to devote 2 hours to acoustic and 2 hours towards electric most days. So much to learn 😉

Great Lightnin’ Hopkins clips Don D. I have seen a few but there were a few I had not. So thank you very much!

It’s all my pleasure CC. I’m happy to share them, even happier when I know people are watching.

Here’s The Blues According to Lightnin’ Hopkins by Les Blank and Skip Gerson. There’s a link to it in the playlist description, but I want to be sure you saw it.

In case anyone wants to buy it, here’s a link to Les Blank’s website, with many other films (if you buy the box set, the price of each film drops to about 25% of the list price).

                      Here’s an on-demand version.

                      Enjoy!

                      Don D.
