Lesson Difficulty Rating?

Hello,
I’ve been a member for quite some time now and have learned a lot. Thank you! Not sure if it would be possible, but it would be helpful it the lessons indicated some sort of difficulty rating. I know you have Beginner lessons, but I do find with the general lessons some are harder than others. Just a thought.

I asked this question a year or more back, I cant quite recall is it was ever answered or not tbh.

I agree with Barry, it’s very subjective. You can be great with the lead licks but not finger style so the lead would be easy and the finger style hard but the opposite could be true for me.
If you listen to the lesson and like it enough to want to learn it, then go for it. If it was rated easy you may skip it and miss a gem thinking it’s below your level.

One other thing that I believe Brian mentions in many of his videos is even if you can’t play a certain part or parts of a lesson, there are always great takeaways from every lesson he puts out. Alternate chord positions, strum rhythm, jazz chords, turnarounds… The list can go on and on. You may not be able to play a certain lesson right away but there’s still plenty to learn from. I would also suggest slowing things down and trying to work through them accurately. Eventually speed will come and you will surprise yourself with what you will be able to play.

Hi Kim, I hear what your saying but I do agree with Mark O on this one,
In every lesson there is something to learn wether you can actually play it afterwards or not.
I have my own simplified system, they are ‘All Hard!’

Hi Kim,

If you go into Lessons, then you’ll see the Lesson Categories, then 4th one down is Beginner Guitar Lessons (Easy). There’s plenty of stuff there for the Beginning to Intermediate student. Working thru some of these I find myself saying “Beginner- really Brian?” as some of this stuff is, I feel beyond beginner. That being said, I’ll listen to some member submissions, or Brian’s latest offering and think wow I love that gotta try it, regardless of the category it may be in. Guess what I’m saying is Brian not categorizing everything as Beginner-Intermed.-Expert categories is a plus for me- makes me stretch outside of the box I’ve put myself in, which is “Intermediate who should be way better if I only practiced more”.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your response. You’ve made some good suggestions. I certainly know what you mean about practice time. It can be hard to find time every day. I’ll check out the beginner lessons and it’s true that one can pick up some new techniques or “ah ha” moments from all of the videos…

Thank you to all of you who have responded. Some great responses. It’s true that each video has something to offer everyone and working through them helps to build confidence. I still think it would be nice to have a way to identify suitable material that a beginner can advance to, or maybe even an Intermediate type program…

I do want to point out that I am not really complaining here. I love this site and Brian’s lessons. I do find it hard to stick with a certain lesson to master it before moving on – there’s just so much good stuff.
