        Hello All,

I am slowly trying to learn lap steel / dobro open g gbdgbd…. Does Active melody give those types of lessons? Or does anyone know of a free site to start learning from..

It is challenging to find something that fits well for dobro. There are a lot of site out there.

So far I have gone through Shane Ankers site ( free portion).

        Thanks Patrick

          I don’t know, but when I don’t know, I just do a search.

Learning With Pat offers a free beginner course for lap steel (and dobro/weissenborn) with a song-focused approach and downloadable tablature. National Guitar Academy provides free beginner-friendly lessons that include history, introductions, and guides to the 12 easiest beginner chords.

          Dobro lessons

SteelC6th.com provides free tabbed arrangements and rhythm tracks to help learners practice Hawaiian songs in C6 tuning.

ArtistWorks offers free lessons from instructor Andy Hall, such as “Movin’ Blues,” accessible via their platform.

YouTube hosts various free tutorials, including Brother Shaw’s Texas Swing Revival (12-bar blues in C6) and Troy Brenningmeyer (Open D tuning).

These free lessons look pretty good to me:

These are not free, but fairly cheap:

That should keep you very busy for a long time

Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

              Patrick,
Brian does have a few open tuning slide lessons but not many. Like Michael said, search the lessons pages but you can also do a Youtube search and a whole new world of lessons maybe opened to you.

              John
