I asked myself, what genre of music makes the most use of “space”? The first thing that popped into my head was Techno, and then maybe Reggae Dub. So I wondered, could I start a song in Techno mode, and then morph it into Reggae Dub? It seemed possible. And lately I’ve been trying to upgrade my Logic Pro skills, so this seemed like a perfect challenge for me this month. To help identify where I have left some space, I have labelled it “Space” in the video. And as a special bonus, in the middle of this project, my good neighbor Dave the Bass Player popped over and we just did some improv for the Reggae Dub section.

I want to learn to play the bass guitar…or to have a neighbour like you, who could help me out with the bass part!
I like your experimenting with space and how you moved from Techno to Reggae dub. Great percussion and keyboard rhythm parts. That lead melody sounds nice!
It is my aim to create my own backing tracks. Thanks for the inspiration.

Steve, If I was Chief Production Director at Sony Music, I’d say you were hired. Loved all the creative parts which merged nicely together towards the finale.

Great stuff, no question about it. I really love your post. I admire your creativity—I could never pull that off. Awesome.

The video that goes with it is also really well done!!!!

                Thank you so much, Werner

You certainly achieved what you tried with morphing two genres. I couldn’t figure out how that would work until you showed us. Plus you provided plenty of space. Great production all round. Are there any instruments you don’t play?

This was brilliant!!! I loved this from start to finish. Not what I expected to see at all.

It’s inspired me to give logic pro a go, although unsure where I’ll find the time

                    Nicely done

Love how you get the maximum creativity out of your gear, Steve. Awesome job on the techno stuff.
I was left wanting for the “leisure wear space” though. Your neighbour is forever immortalized as Dave the Bass Player.

Loved that transition from ultra space to ultra Dave on bass. That was a catch tune. Steve dun did good on this one.

Techno that morphs into Reggae Dub??? Those were foreign terms to me until I watched your video and LOVED it! Your creativity knows no limits! You play all the instruments as if you did that your whole life, and you have a great knack for melodies, too. So lucky to have a bass playing neighbor, what a fantastic collaboration – and yes, with plenty of required space!

That’s a fine overall production, so creative with all the instruments, and clever how you merged the two styles .
I like your use of space around that sweet melody , the bend at around 1.51 was a standout.
Dave on the bass was a fine addition, to the Steve band !

                                              I love the reggae rhythm.
