July 2026 challenge response – Denise & Misty

Hi AMers

For the silence challenge, I decided to create my own backing track
based on a chord progression in Em7 / C-Cmaj7 / G / D-Dsus. The drummer is from GarageBand.
The lead is mostly E minor.

There’s not so much silence in the piece, however I built in two short stops, let ring out single notes and tried to let breathe the melody.

The heat and drought here in Switzerland are crazy! I hope there will be some rain very soon….

Yep, I heard that space. Mission accomplished. And the solo improv was first class, a pleasure to listen to! I guess people in the EU are going to have to start installing air conditioning in their homes. Our house in New Zealand has it, but I would say at least 99% of Kiwis don’t. In the past, no one needed it much, but now the summers are getting hotter even here in the middle of the Southern Ocean.

Another creative piece by you Denise, I loved the relaxed feel to it all particularly with the background Pembrokeshire Coastline. Your choice of reverb and echo certainly conjured up the spacial effect very well.

Very pretty country sound, Denise. Not to quibble but I thought it had a “countryish” major sound from G major.
We must have your rain in the Toronto region, we’ve had some real downpours.
I think you’re too close to the edge. It’s my morbid fear of heights showing.

John, you’re right. I actually played G major which are the same notes like E minor. It’s just that visually, on the fretboard I was thinking minor🤔.

Very enjoyable Denise. I think the use of space works well against a lead that has more going on. Almost like a call and response between activity and space.
Great tone on this one. And those Garage band drummers are good!

Wonderful recording, Denise. Love the tone on Misty and the pauses are a nice touch too. Your timing and licks are spot on with the rhythm and cool percussion.

Simply outstanding, Denise – everything about it! I loved it from the very start of the rhythm and then the spacious lead just made the music soar! Loved the pauses you created, the long (happy sounding) notes, and the beautiful pure tone. Great job on the backing track, the whole composition and the performance were at a pro level, as always 🙂

Love the creativity Denise, I like how you layered each part , that is a catchy rhythm sounds so good . Great use of space allowing that dreamy lead to standout .
Wonderful tone from both guitars
The imagery backdrop goes so well with this piece, I showed it to Angela and she immediately recognised that coastline , it’s a special place .
