I’ve been using Logic Pro for almost 8 years now, and still to this day I only know how to use about 5% of its capability. I can record my instruments, add effects (somewhat), add an AI drummer, add some Apple Loops (sound samples) etc. But I’m wasting a lot of the software power I paid for. So I decided it’s time to get serious and upgrade my DAW skills. One of my favorite Logic Pro gurus has a channel called “MusicTechHelpGuy” and a couple years ago he started a really cool set of tutorials which are designed to take you through a training program which will turn you into an expert. Here’s the first lesson (Logic Pro #01), which just tells you how his tutorials will be laid out. If you click on it, over on the side of your window Youtube will show the link to Logic Pro #02 so you can just move onto it when you’re ready. So if you want to get serious about Logic Pro, check this out. It’s the 3rd lesson, which has a bit more meat than the first two:

Excellent Steve! You the Man…. I am still tinkering with your other video(s) referencing iPhone microphones. I would be interested to hear your thinking about the advantages/differences has over GarageBands. Thanks for all you do my friend.

I know it sounds strange, but after spending a year using GarageBand, I actually found Logic Pro to be more user friendly and intuitive. For years I used nothing but PCs and was very skilled at working with the Windows operating systems. I found that the basic Apple software programs – GarageBand and iMovie for example – were quite alien to my Windows experience. The methods of input and output of data, file nomenclature, moving and storing files, and general user-interface operations were totally different from what I was used to. The more advanced (= professional) versions seemed to be better laid out and more familiar to me. I guess that’s why GarageBand is free, and Logic Pro costs about $200.
One word of caution: I think if you want to get serious about any DAW, you need to be using a large external monitor. There is so much detail in the various tabs, buttons, menus, dials, and labels that it all just looks super tiny on a laptop. So my laptop plugs into a 27″ external monitor most of the time. And if you have cataracts, like I’m developing, you need to plan on getting your lenses replaced or you’ll just be looking at a fuzzy mess.

Super helpful Steve. I went through his videos 2 or 3 years ago and already forgot most of what I learned so I’ll definitely have to go through this again. I find there is a lot in Logic that I’ll never use but there’s a lot I need to brush up on too.

I’ve been using his videos for years. I’ve bought a number of tutorial books and viewed other channels, but nothing comes close to this guy. You can support him via Patreon if you want – I just wish he would make his videos available through Patreon without the YouTube adverts!

No ads whatsoever, plus a bunch of other freebies. To me, YouTube is not worth trying to watch with the ads turned on. That’s especially true when trying to watch music videos, because there’s nothing worse than having Youtube interrupt a concert one or more times during the performance.

Yea, but you don’t need to go to premium to get rid of ads. I just use the Brave browser on all my devices and never get any ads. It’s as simple as that.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Hi Steve.
I had both eyes with cataracts. Had the operation done in Bangkok Thailand last May and July. So far all is well. You do have to take the 2 types of eyes drops 4 times a day for 30 days.
For the last 2 years been spending half the year in Thailand and the half in Japan. Really haven’t been to active here, but I try to chime in and post and try out some of the ML lessons.Always good to hear from you.
