Hi members,
Treated myself today to a new 32″ monitor, ideal for displaying the entire Soundslice tab sheet. This is my new efficient set up to see Soundslice while, simultaneosly, viewing the video lesson. Hope it will help clear my backlog of 300+ lessons!

Oh, yes, that looks perfect, John! Seeing the whole soundslice tablature and Brian at the same time will sure make it easier to follow along. Nice little studio you got there 🙂

John,
I can see that your big screen will help out quite a bit. I have dual 24inch monitors and can only put Soundslice up on one. Are you able to split the Soundslice video screen to one monitor and the Tab to another. If not then Jola might not have picked up that your left video is showing one of the lesson full speed videos and I am not sure if its possible for you to have imported that into Soundslice and synced it. Either way I would interested to split the Soundslice active displays across my 2 monitors. But perhaps that is not the point merely that you are able to show the two tab pages on one screen but how have you unlimited the pdf line lengths of 3/4 bars or is it a more active tab page saved some how from Soundslice?

John,
I wouldn’t be able to sync the video (I actually have two tabs of Active Melody open) but it should be so helpful to see the tab as Brian explains and then stop the video and practice a few phrases at a time on Soundslice. I find I used to flip back and forth quite a bit on one monitor.

John
That I can vouch for with my two 24s. I put the lesson on one and the tab up on the other and yes I have some tone deafness and cant always catch
Brian’s speech and having the tab up is really helpful.
I see you have the Soundslice tab display up in your pictures. That of course allows for the pagination adjustment but is online whereas I tend to us the pdf but then one may need a second window open for a page two etc where your arrangement comes in handy to get all on the screen.

@JohnStrat
I know what you mean but I wasn’t thinking that you can actually split the Soundslice video embedded with the tablature. I thought what Charjo John intended – so he can play the lesson with Brian explaining things and have the Soundslice right there to help following along. I usually have to print the tabs to do that.BTW, sometimes I can adjust the Zoom in the Settings to actually see the whole tablature AND the video at the same page (computer screen) but obviously the print becomes smaller. But once I know what notes are played, that does not bother me anymore, either.

Mine is only a puny 27″. Now I feel deprived.

Congrats John. I think that counts as NGD (New Gear Day). Hope it increases your productivity, but at the minimum it should be so much easier on the eyes. Could also make video production more convenient

I’m jealous John. But I’m also interested in that subwoofer on the floor. Can you tell me what that is?

Hi Richard,
It’s the matching sub woofer to the KRK Rokit monitor speakers. I can’t play it very loudly or the whole room rattles but it’s nice for a little fuller bass in my monitors or for listening to music. I got the set, with the stands, used through a Kijiji ad.

John,
You do know how to do things!
I’m impressed.

A magnifier in windows 10 is okay but a good enhancement would be darkest like black and bit bolder letters on this site ,.. dark black and slightly bigger fonts on the site instead of light and thin orange

Congratulations, John. It all looks pretty good. I also like a large, clear screen area; it helps. Have fun and success with it!
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Well now that’s a great idea…. Where is that Fender Vibrolux I am always hearing? Love your set up John… you gotta maximize that Active Melody enjoyment. I am always toggling back in forth through the audio, visual and scrolling tab to figure out which best suits my learning style. Great idea on this.

Hi John,
I did something similar a few months ago. My setup has a smaller screen though. We had a 21″ screen on an old Mac Desktop which I used to get a setup similar to yours. So it’s not as big as your 32″ but it makes it easier to read the tab as you mentioned. Very cool post. Thanks for sharing that.

Very nice, John. Do you also have a “Cone of Silence,” so your wife can’t yell at you while practicing? Looks like it would fit perfectly. Please tell me where to buy!

Oh man, they don’t make TV shows like they used to. “That’s Craw, not Craw”….loved that sitcom.

Great stuff your workstation looks soooooo tidy I’m really jealous
My gear is scattered over the house 1 computer is in 1 room and my audio sound recording stuff in another and I’m also very untidy.
Really nice looking screen being able to run 2 large monitors is really effective I really need to get my act together on this one.

Great looking Jan space. Do you relic your Strat or just played the snot out of it?
Cheers

No, Greg, I payed extra for Fender to beat the snot out of it. It’s funny how I am so much less concerned about dings and marks now. I do love the sanded neck, though, it’s so smooth and frictionless.

Ha! Great idea. I don’t usually go to forums, just lessons. But this post and Brian’s recent video on recording have kicked up my enjoyment of AM. Looking at what you did, I now put my iPad in front of my monitor with the tab on it. Can’t fit it all in but I can see the section that Brian is working on while I have the video on my monitor. Also, I pulled out my “jam” interface and plugged my guitar into my Mac, opened GarageBand and checked out some sounds. Great. So, I can play through my Mac while hearing the lesson and seeing the tab, all with easily controlled volume (and effects if I want them). I’m just at the point, after years here and mostly following along the lessons, to start improvising. I’ll play through the Mac and record whenever I want so that I can improve.
This is huge to me. It means I will finally get to improvising and enjoying playing guitar more than ever. Yay, Active Melody.
