        Hi folks,
I realize this one may divide the waters, and technically not really in the category of “Showcase my playing”.
I am interested to hear your opinion.

I created an AI Blues Rock Band !
The members are AI created, the sound is AI generated, the lyrics too. But from my idea (my prompt if you will).

I understand if you think this is cheating and fake, but at least I am honest about it 😉

I was blown away by how easy it was to generate a rock song and get a good vibe and nice guitar sound.
        I used Suno.

Also, I see why (real) musicians are against it, it is not real human created music.

And now I created a YouTube channel for the band, haha.

        Check it out !

This definitely does not belong in Showcase your Playing at all. Yes we know you can create music with AI.

Root note patterns >>> CAGED shapes >>> TRIAD'S. Just put in the work and watch your guitar skills soar.

Hi Michael, I understand your position, and I can suggest that the moderator moves it to “Music Discussions”.
Before I posted, I searched for posts about AI music and didn’t find any.

Unfortunately, better than anything the Stones have come up with this decade. Kind of long for a rock song, you’ll never get radio play.
Peter, were you involved in the guitar tone or is it all AI’s choice?

I “came up with” the guitar tone only in terms of phrasing the prompt, I can’t go back and find right now, but I was asking for an overdriven full sound with occasional harmonics, bluesy and with a full length guitar solo also. I was really amazed by the sound it came up with !

This sounds fantastic but I am really disturbed at how AI can be used to replace real musicians.

You are right , this is cheating and fake and you are honest about it. That said, I feel this kind of thing is pretty lazy and the internet is rife with this.

What’s worse is AI is basically stealing human capital. I do not approve of that 🫩

                      Thanks Geoff,
I understand and agree. I won’t post any more of this, but it is great fun to play with and explore musical ideas.
I plan on using it to create my own backing tracks to play over.

Sure Peter, that is a perfectly legitimate use of AI.

Don’t get me wrong. I think it is a powerful tool but it should be used to enhance human creativity not replace it.

This is an interesting topic that is probably better off in another forum thread (no disrespect intended).

Generally I am very against AI for anything creative, be it artwork, writing or music in this case. However, I think the one positive of stuff like this is that it really highlights just how important and impressive live (and real) music is. Anyone can generate AI music like this, but seeing music performances in real life feels so much more special nowadays because we’re inundated with instant-made, low effort ‘music’.

And this post really highlights just how important this community is, where we see just how much effort people put in to creating real music

All that AI “music” is only like a toy to me. At first it does sound kind of good but the novelty wears off to me before the song even ends. If I like certain music, I research the creator, read their story, see them live, find the human connection, and get excited when they come to town or when I see them in the media. The AI “music” is just a one dimensional copy of a vibe that sounds somewhat familiar but has no depth and no human factor which gets me as excited as an advertisement on a local tv station.

                                  You are absolutely right.
After I made this, I found other AI creations on YouTube, and they started to sound then same….

But a great tool to explore musical ideas and just have fun.

It does have the obvious benefit of structuring a song for a real band though. I think that is a real plus. So even though it was not generated by a real band thus far, I’m sure a real band could cover this minus the exact vocals. Does the AI generate guitar tabs of the final creation? That would be useful as well.

Root note patterns >>> CAGED shapes >>> TRIAD'S. Just put in the work and watch your guitar skills soar.

                                      Hi Michael,

I don’t think it creates the tabs (that would be nice), but what you can do is separate the instruments into ‘stems’ and turn them on or off individually, or edit just one of them without touching the others.

Just now, I used AI to check a worksheet I had made. It was very helpful.

An interesting discussion piece for another place or even not- because it’s become commonplace. I’ve heard much AI created music, and most of it sounds the same, just like this. Too polished and precise, and I know I’ve heard that singers voice before. It’s actually annoying. It will never replace the hours of practice, dedication and creativity of an actual human being. Nothing against you, but there is so much of it out there now that there is nothing fresh or new about it. I have to agree that it doesn’t belong here. You can have fun with it for sure, but don’t expect much from something that is created so easily and has no real integrity.

You know the funny thing Chuck, is that it fools me. I was watching a lady present two pieces : one by Bach and another ‘fake’ Bach generated by AI. Honestly, I could not tell the difference and nor could anybody else in the audience.

Personally, I find the whole thing scary and I hope that we as humans learn how to deal with this.

Geoff, I think with classical music it’s already so precise and pretty much exactly to the measure, so it would be hard to tell the difference. I share AI cat videos with my mother who is is in a nursing home, and we get a good laugh – they are funny and cute. But I do agree with you and others that it is kind of scary if taken too far. Where will it stop? In the US here, there is no desire from the top to put any guard rails on it in order to compete. A sad reflection of the times. Hopefully things will shift for the betterment of everyone, and not just the few.

It’s okay as a tool for practicing or creating parts of videos, but otherwise I really reject it because it ruins handmade, original music, and because it’s no longer really possible to tell what’s “machine-generated” and what’s genuine, original music.

And there are also AI ‘Musicians’ who use AI instruments or vocals on songs they supposedly composed. It’s really disappointing that music platforms embrace the use of AI
