Hi Active Melody Community:
Here is a quick tutorial video I did on how to use the Soundslice tool. This is one of the great features you have access to as a premium member. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Hi Bryce,
Interesting that you have posted this as I seem to be having issues with mine. At 100% it’s running around 50% at best.
When I push it all the way up I’m still only around 75%, maybe less even.
Any Ideas??Rob

The Soundslice is a great tool in all of its applications presented here. However, is there a way to use it while listening only to the MP3 jamtrack? I think that might be quite helpful for me.

Thanks Bryce, I had no idea there were so many helpful functions in Soundslice. Love the fretboard display (Brian’s trailing fingers sometimes block the view) and the adjustable looping is exactly why I was searching for this video. Iv’e been stopping playing to grab the mouse, dragging the play timer to just before the little section I want, it plays through it and runs way past it before I can drag it back again. Been driving me nuts! 🙂
Brilliant video!

Hi Rob,
I’m sorry you are having playback issues. Have you tried a different browser?
If it still happens in a different browser I would guess one of two things. You have a slower internet speed that is affecting playback (see if not having the video portion on (i.e. Audio only) speeds up the playback) -or- you might need a to download the latest browser version.
If you verify that those aren’t the problem and the problem persists I would contact Brian at support@activemelody.com.

Hey Bryce thanks for doing this – I found it quite helpful. Actually, all of your videos etc have been very informative and helpful! As an aside, I honestly don’t know where you find the time to do all that you do for the AM community. Kudos to you for sure! You must have some wicked time management skills. 🙂
Anyway, it’s very much appreciated.Don

Thanks Bryce, internet speed makes sense. I’ll try it at work on Monday and even though it doesn’t do me much good at home at least I’ll know the problem. We’re actually shopping around for a new service so perhaps that’ll be the cure.
Thanks Again

This tutorial on using soundslice is totally going to help in learning the licks that I found troublesome.
Thanks so much Bryce.

Many thanks Bryce for your excellent video tutorial on using the Soundslice feature. I had not taken the time to fully explore its features but after watching your tutorial I now appreciate what a useful resource it is.
Your dedication to rolling out these always timely tutorials, and to helping the AM community in general, is much appreciated. Cheers,

Hi Bryce,
One thing I have noticed is that 100% playback speed is still slower than Brian’s tempo on the demonstration video. Unfortunately, 125% playback speed seems to be Brian’s original tempo on most lessons where I’ve used Soundslice.

Thanks Bryce,
I’ve been toiling away trying to learn some licks and getting very frustrated. I thought “I wish there was a loop function on this – let’s go an have a look”. And lo and behold there was your video and you described it very clearly. Great facility and I shall be switching it on in a minute.
Thanks again,
Andrew

Hi Bryce,
I agree with charjo that the slice does play back slowly. Is there away round this? The Boogie Woogie lesson doesn’t seem to play as fast as Brian even at 125%.
Thanks for your help,
Andrew

I also agree that the slice does play back slowly. Even when I play it at 125%, it is still slower than what Brian plays it at. I seems that the natural playing speed is based on Brian’s slow walk thru and not his normal speed. I just figured it was set up that way. It would be nice if you could play it at Brian normal speed.

@classicvibe, @strykerward, @aussie-rick, @stratplus66-2:
Thanks for the appreciation. I’m glad you found the video helpful. Sometimes I do tutorial videos and don’t hear much about them. So it is nice to know if they are helpful or not.

Bryce, not sure if you can help or not. I cant seem to get some features of the soundslice to work. Basically I am able to play it at normal speed with or without video but when I adjust the speed it does not respond to slowing it down. I change the speed to 50% for example, but it still plays at 100%. also the audio does not seem to sync up right with the scrolling tab. Also, when I click on full screen it pops up with a message that says “this site does not support full screen”. I am trying on my laptop and not a tablet. Not sure if I need some kind of particular software on my laptop? Anyway, thanks for the tutorial video. I have not really took advantage of the soundslice before. It seems like it will be extremely helpful if I can just figure it out. Thanks…Scott.

Hey Bryce,
Thanks for providing these videos’ I have just realised how little I knew or used this tool. Boy have I wasted time trying to get that awkward section stop/start and you just covered the highlight and loop facility!
I’m learning that non guitar time is a valuable investment to make my guitar time more productive; hey thanks again.

Hey Bobby, sorry to hear that you’re having an issue with Windows 10 and Chrome. I can’t replicate this on my end, have you tried a different browser (i.e. Firefox) just to figure out if it’s browser related? Does it not play at all? Or does it only play after you log in again and restart it? Send me an email to brian (at) activemelody (dot) com to continue this so I can help you troubleshoot.

Bryce that was excellent tutorial.. especially the highlighting the hard parts with soundslice looping feature! .. what I’ve noticed just using it last few months, the more I use it, the easier it is to quickly learn the Active Melody lessons featuring soundslice.. Think I became a premium member about the time AM introduced the new featured sound slice.. cheers!

I can clarify the speed point mentioned here previously. Brian dose not always use the full tempo version of his lesson for use with Soundslice. If it is a fast tempo he may post the slow playback recording to Soundslice and thus full tempo can only be exceeded by the 25% that Soundslice will go above the 100% level of the slower recording. Thus if the slow playback is more than 25% less tempo than the full speed variety Soundslice wont be able to bring it up to full speed. Brian does this so that those of us who are not so fast fingered get a chance to learn the tab at a suitable pace. Once learned the speed can be built with practice. Soundslice facilitates getting all the licks and nuances on board which the bare tab cannot give.

Hi Bryce,
EP208…..the loop button doesn’t work (on the whole song). The only way I can get it to loop the whole song is to drag the mouse to section off the whole song. but you can’t drag it all at once. You have to wait for the music to catch up, while holding the mouse button down all the way to the end. Only then will it loop. my finger gets tired doing that so I first set the tempo up as fast as it will go. but why doesn’t the “loop” button work?
thanks—Pat
ALL IT TAKES TO WRITE A SONG IS........3 CHORDS AND THE TRUTH!

The loop button is really designed for you selecting a small segment and then looping that segment. Not really designed to loop the entire song.

I understand what JohnB means.. if I highlight a full section.. sound recording loops but the section doesn’t sync/loop right along.. but as you stated ,, when using the soundslice loop feature software for smaller sections it works loops fine.. if say try to highlight too many measures the sections do not scroll in sync to the loop recording. not a big deal and that was always an issue with soundslice not Active Melody in your control of the soundslice software.

Hi John,
It could be a browser issue. You might try a different browser. If it persists I would contact support@activemelody.com.

welcome! oh yeah was just using the feature,, if you want to know how I practice using the soundslice,, I highlight sections at a time to loop over and over and concentrate enough to when I PRETTY MUCH MEMORIZED IT and than click play through and repeat the same highlight the next section repeat etc,, I just did this with lesson 286,, first go was tonight and pretty much have it down,, great leasson,,lot of Chuck Berry and hear that Keith Richard signature triad whatever too.. really great tool is learning how to use what tools are inside the soundslice .. loop is a must learn feature.. (helps memorize and helps much for feel tempo etc) Also my biggest tip is learn how to site read tab even at full tempo,, this would make you breeze through these lesson.. But this will take as much time as you need..depending on skill level.. i can for instance sight read the tab and play without looking where i’m playing on the fretboard in most cases..but those are my tips for practicing using soundslice! enjoy!

I was wondering if there is a way to turn off Brian and just have backing track with the tab scrolling…

Having trouble opening “Settings” tab in Soundslice. No longer responds (up until yesterday it worked fine). Also, never had full looping capability. Will only highlight on bar at a time (no more and no less than that)…???

Anyone know if it’s possible to download the SoundSlice file into Guitar Pro 7. Sometimes I would like to make minor changes to suit my playing or even add something of my own?
-

I use the print option to save the tablature to pdf. Many PCs and browsers today allow you on the select printer screen to select save-to-pdf option, so this allows you to save to pdf from the print screen.
But why should I do this?
Because it saves it in the format you selected for the tablature in the settings (there are several format supported, like with chords charts, with or without the notes, etc..), while the normal download button saves the tablature only in one format (without the notes).Israel

Hi. I’ve noticed on some of the Soundslice lessons, the jam track plays with the tab, and some they don’t. Is there any way to get the jam track to play on the ones that don’t? It’s very helpful to have the jam track going with the tab scrolling.
-
March 22, 2021 at 11:24 pm #242420
SoundSlice is the best! Killer feature by far.
I also subscribe to TXBA site, and Anthony embeds the Jam Track into SoundSlice which is a very nice feature.
The jam track plays through audio and the tab auto scrolls in time.
Would love to see Brian adopt the same.See attchment which is a screen shot from TXBA SoundSlice player…

Hi Bruce
I’ve been using SSlice for years on my Mac, but now I’ve had to switch to an iPadPro. I can’t seem to be able to use the loop feature on the IPad because I can’t scrub and highlight anything on the iPsd screen? Do you know of a setting or workaround for this IPad difference?
Thanks for your consideration, Rick
