After watching the monthly challenge videos this weekend, I made a couple of comments about lap steel guitars (On Jola’s post for example). Now suddenly my Youtube algorithm has presented me with 4 videos of tips and tricks for playing lap steel. I have never mentioned lap steels before, or done any searches for them. To me, this means that some kind of web crawler is harvesting our comments on the challenges. I’m not at all bothered, it’s just weird.

Scary, isn’t it? Same thing happens to everyone in our office at work. Merely talking about something as benign as posthole diggers will conjure up images of posthole diggers on your feed. So either saying it out loud or writing it in a forum is fair game for the AI presence that seems to dominate our current culture. There are microphones and computers connected to the web everywhere.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Same thing with You tube!! The mere thought of something instantly brings forth unwanted adds on that thought! Our phones and TVs are spying our conversations for add purposes, but it could develop into a more dangerous situation in the future!!

I’ll be worried when it happens after I’m just thinkin’ of something.
I think I get less of this using a VPN.

Steve, Remember when concerns were put to Brian about personal info and the like happening on the forum, Brian then set up a Private Members Only posting so it was inclusive only to AM paying members. Other than Brian’s pay lessons everything is open to anyone. I did a search outside of the site once on the internet and was shocked to see someone’s posting for ‘What Made you Play Guitar’ and the link to the AM forum ( a word must have been in their posting). Just too open.

We get this a lot – so much so that it can easily convince you that “they” are always watching, always listeneing, always waiting 😲😲😂😂
My wife, Fiona, and I use Apple’s “Siri” service occasionally. We are becoming convinced that it is ALWAYS storing what we say, not just when we call it to action with “Hey Siri”. Quite suddenly, things we’ve just spoken about for the first time will appear on Fiona’s Facebook feed 🤔🤔
More concerning is that the algorithms these companies use have linked us together. I investigated the “Deliveroo” take-away food delivery service just last week. Within hours, Fiona was suddenly receiving adverts for this service, and I hadn’t even spoken to her about it 😳😳😱😱
This old saying is true: “Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you” 😂😂😂 – Mark 👍🎶😎

Hi Mark. If you have “Hey Siri” enabled then it is always listening to every word you say. That’s how it can respond when you say Hey Siri. I have mine turned off so I have to click a button to activate Siri. Yet, somehow I still see ads for something I discussed with my wife! 😏
