I had a lot of setbacks this week. It seems like every week something comes up or happens to derail my plans. I finally got a chance to record what I was working on for the challenge and this was the 7th take. I decided that I would not stop for each take and keep going in spite of mistakes or whatever happened. This one started out shaky on the easy part but suddenly I went right into the zone and started jamming something I could be proud of. I hope you all enjoy it and get inspiration from it.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Hey Michael, isn’t that the way? Sometimes the synapses just connect and it flows. You navigated that with style and energy. It was fun to listen all the way through. I enjoyed it!

Michael
Yeah you can be proud of this. Sounds tremendous. You got the chops and the tone! Fantastic. Might as well just submit with warts and all, or it just becomes a hassle. I can’t see/hear any mistakes. Great bends and snappy Strat vibe.John

That’s the way to do it with a Strat and a Fender reverb.
Excellent improv.
Great energy.AndréM

It sounds brilliant, Michael! This is what I call making sing a a Fender, your technique and tone for this one is just perfect
Your own improvisations were so cool as well. One of my favorite electric lessons, and I could listen to your rousing rendition for hours!

Sounds excellent!!
Love that tone on your Strat.
Great double stops. Great improvised playing in-between, works very well with the track.
It’s one of my favorite lessons, very powerful, although I haven’t worked on it yet.
Bravo Michael, you can be proud of that one.

I hear a few elements of the original lesson but you really ran with it and put your own style on it. That’s the way to do it. Great playing and strat tone.

A great take on a very popular lesson, Michael, and one of my favourites too – your performance was excellent, and I loved your improv. – Mark 👍🎶😎

Thank you all for such kind words, I really didn’t know how popular this particular lesson was as I just discovered it while looking for something to play in D. I had originally selected something with a faster tempo and realized soon that it would take to long to get into a workable state, so this one got me to the finish line without going deep into the weekend.
BTW, I think I may have found another guitar player to jam with in my area. His wife plays as well, so this should be very interesting. Hopefully, he will allow me to record a session once we get something worked out. I think I reignited his desire to play guitar more often. He has a lot more guitars than I do.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

A fantastic jam, Michael! I could see how you got into it and things started flowing into a very musical jam. And when you start to improvise in some areas and still manage to stay on track, that’s great musicianship we could all aspire to. Loved the tone as well, great playing – you rocked it! Let us know how the jamming with a buddy and his wife works out, it sounds like fun!

That’s a fabulous number and you did a great job on it Michael. Round 1 was textbook, 2&3 you went off-piste with some cool improv parts only to join the main theme each time smack on target. Hats off to you as it takes a bit of nerve to do that well.

Definitely something to be proud of Michael . Something happens when the red light does not restrict us anymore. You soared like a bird with this, freedom playing, Top Notch.

Hey Michael, that was terrific! You were in the zone and your playing was very solid. What I liked best were your dynamics. That is way more important to the listener of (more or less) live music than hitting every tone perfectly. Side note: I had chosen the same EP for my submission this month, but – obviously – I didn’t make it. Now I am almost glad I didn’t, because it would have never been as listenable as yours.

I did make huge leaps in the past six months alone, but don’t compare yourself to anyone else. If I did that, I would have given up long ago and just settled for being an open chords guy. We all have a competition against ourselves, and as long as we all focus on getting better than we were yesterday, we can be assured that we will have that breakthrough moment.
When you do have a personal breakthrough, just remember all the time and effort it took to get to that point. Onward and upward my fiend.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Plenty of inspiration, thanks, I’m working on it every night now. It’s got that Traveling Wilburys feel which I love. Great for improvising too, as you demonstrate so well.
