Dear AMers – I didn’t have the time to do the Challenge this month. May and June always seem to be busy – we had a lovely Holiday in Southern Ireland, plus there seem to be lots of Birthdays around now. I shouldn’t complain though, as it’s my 68th birthday next week (and I don’t look a day over 80 🤣🤣)

Anyway, to keep my hand in, I thought I would have a go at lesson EP636. I was especially inspired by Dieter, Larry and Liam’s performances of this – though I haven’t the time to match Dieter’s playing of all the instruments 👏👏

I’ve run through the lesson twice, with an Improv run in between.

As ever, I hope you enjoy my attempt 😁🤞

Nicely done, Mark. I liked your own version the best. Some great choices there, especially that “Sweet Child of Mine” transition lick into your solo.

Well played Mark. Great lesson choice and cool blues playing. Like John said, really enjoyed your own impro too. 👏👏🌟👏👏 Happy Birthday for next week. Hope it’s a great day for you. All the best! 😎🎸😎

              Well played Mark,
You hit all the ‘sweet spots’ nicely. I agree with Charjo your solo in between was tasty. Good looking Les Paul and some great tone as well.

That was really good Mark. Your improv was exceptional. Nice tone from the LP. Happy Birthday (next week) you young whipper snapper (I’m turning 69 this September). 🤪

Mark I didn’t hear other versions but I like yours a lot.
Great tone from the open humbucker Di Marzio if I am not mistaken.
Mark you are just a younster I will be 70 in September, lol
                    Anyway Happy Birthday in advance.

I don’t know this lesson, yet, so I didn’t know which part was yours. I guess that says something about your playing that i can’t distinguish yours from the original lesson 😁

From the first note to completion, classy work and tone to boot. Mark, your own solo just complemented it so well in the middle. 👏 Happy Birthday for next week.

Thank you all so much for the wonderful comments and Birthday wishes – they are really heart-warming ♥️♥️

In many of Brian’s lessons, he often says, “I got this lick from …”. I’ve never been able to do this before, but the ‘Slash’ lick seemed to fit somehow. I’d used this in a Challenge response some months ago, and I wondered if anyone would recognise it 🤔🤔 – well, it didn’t take very long, did it 😂😂 – spot on, John 👏👏

André: The Pickups on my LP are Burstbucker 61R Zebra (Neck) and Burstbucker 61T Zebra (Bridge). Although I haven’t played around with the feature yet, they are paired with 2 Push/Pull Volume controls (Coil Taps) and 2 Push/Pull Tone controls (Pure Bypass/Phase).

We are having a family get-together later today to celebrate my Birthday later in the week. When my 7 year old Grandson was told that I’ll be 68, he said, “You CAN’T be 68, Grandpa! That’s for OLD people!” 🤣🤣. While driving back home afterwards, Fiona and I were saying that, when we were children (or even in our teens), people aged around 68 certainly did seem to have aged far more than nowadays! 😁😁

                          Best wishes all ♥️♥️

                            My dearest Mark ♥️💖❤️
I watched your own part 3 times trying to identify the famous phrase and my mind was blank 🤣🤣but then I read what John wrote and I sighed with relief!!🤣🤣🤣How perfectly you fitted it in as well as some other very intriguing phrases that you used and you made it totally your own version!!!I have heard the lesson many times so I know that you played it accurately and with perfect timing but your version really stands out!!!And did you have Fiona film you and zoom in and out ???🤣🤣🤣🤣As for your birthday I will express my wishes to you in private!!!!when is exactly your birthday???

Happy birthday, Mark. Great job on this one. Those 68 year old fingers can still bend those strings and make ‘em sing.
