I have been enjoying the Summer here in Vancouver in spite of the horrendous fires we have been getting in the provincial interior.

This is a lesson that is the culmination of 4 other chord shape micro lessons that provide a great way of thinking about chords and blues patterns across the fretboard. I have looked at two of those so far but I liked this EP631 lesson so much, I just jumped straight to it. I am going through a “Lazy” phase where I just want to play without doing to much hard work 🤪.

The second half of this performance is me just winging it. Way back when, Brian put out a lesson that went through the 5 most common blues patterns and i spent time learning them. I can do pattern 1 and 2 and the rest I play by feel more or less.

Anyway, for those in the Northern Hemisphere, I hope you are enjoying the summer as much as I am 😎

I like when you went into your own improv on this Geoff. The whole lesson is packed with blues goodness, but it’s all about making your own parts up. Perfect guitar tone on this one as well.

Root note patterns >>> CAGED shapes >>> TRIAD'S. Just put in the work and watch your guitar skills soar.

Hi Geoff, that’s very creative—so many ideas. It sounds really good and varied.

Neat playing and cool turn around(s). This is steamy/after hours backing track and you explore it nicely. I really enjoyed your free-spirited play up and down the neck. Tone good too! Well done my friend.

Thanks John. This was one of Brian’s really great blues lessons and it was a fun one to explore.

Yes, great lesson choice Geoff. I really dug this one too. Sounds fantastic on your Jazzmaster. Loved the impro, especially the little motif you started with. Very laid back soloing and again, your improvs overall always stay true to the feel of the original. Well played. All the best! 😎🎸😎

Sounds awesome, Geoff. You nailed it! Very smooth. Second half improv was great; meshed with Brian’s perfectly.

                                  Nicely done Geoff.

                                  Loved the tone.

Thanks Liam. I always thrown my own take on Brian’s lessons – after all, that’s what Brian’s lessons are for. Not to simply copy what he does but there are merits in trying to do that too of course 🙂

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that Jazzmasters are very underrated guitars. Just love the sounds I can get out of that thing.

Great rendition of the first Brian’s part, Geoff. That Jazzmaster sounds so cool, really you dialed in a great tone!

But even more, as usual, I liked your own composition in the second part!
