        EMBEDDED VIDEOS

        Hello AM’ers
        I DON’T KNOW HOW TO DO THIS…..

(record the lead guitar part and embed the rhythm part in the video)

I have recorded my rhythm track for the March 2026 submission as a video.

Now I want to play the lead part over it (or under it) and place the lead part in it. Or probably visa versa with the rhythm embedded in the lead video.

I suppose you would need an app but I don’t know which one to get and I want something NOT complicated.

It needs to be a simple learning curve. I don’t need a lot of bells and whistles.
Any suggestions that could help me with this before the submission date this month

        thanks so much Paddyboy

I have not done this yet myself, so I’m in the same boat as you. I’ll just describe my plan.

          1. record video of rhythm part and direct record audio part within Studio One DAW.
          2. play the lead part to the already existing rhythm part just recorded and record that inside the DAW and record video with my phone just like the rhythm part.
          3. Now combine both video and add the already combined audio tracks for each part in any video editing software. I’m now using the free version of Davinci Resolve which like any piece of software has small learning curve to do basic stuff. The more complicated stuff requires more learning. There are a ton of videos to guide you through most of the tasks needed.

That said, I haven’t figured out what I’m going to do exactly yet. I really like what wannaplayblues did with his most recent video of both rhythm and lead parts, so I may attempt to split the two video’s vertically and focus in the guitar like he did if it’s not too hard to do.

Another option is to show only the lead part only and occasionally show the rhythm part. This is probably the simplest way to get the job done.

If I have time, I want to explore making one of the video’s transparent enough to show both parts right on top of each other. Lead part would be zoomed in on the guitar only and the rhythm part would be a full body view playing the rhythm. I like this idea, but currently have not figured out how to do this in Davinci Resolve yet. If I have time to figure it out, this is the way I might go.

Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

I just found a video showing how easy it is to simply drag the corners of the video to the size you want and rescale it how you like. It looks very easy to me. Davinci Resolve free version will work just fine.

Just about any video editing software package will do this for you. There are many in the forum that use Da Vinci resolve so that would be a good choice if you can’t get to terms with it. I didn’t like it much but that’s probably because I wasn’t patient enough to really get to know it.
If you have Apple products then iMovie should do it for you (ChatGPT reckons it can) and is probably already on your phone or Mac.
I used to use ShotCut which is also free and runs on Windows or Mac.

One thing to keep in mind. Some of these packages (and Davinci Resolve is one of them) can use big chunks of disk space. Especially if you start to get funky with your video creations. Not a problem if you have plenty but you may want to keep an eye on it and housekeep regularly.
ShotCut didn’t which is one of the things I liked about it.

ShotCut was the one I used before Davinci, the secret to using Davinci is understanding how that tab system works. You must know which tab you have to be on in order to perform certain tasks. The Edit tab is the one most used. Once you get that part the rest of it is just getting used to the weird icons they use like the razor icon for slicing a track up. Why on earth every software doesn’t use a scissor icon for that is beyond my comprehension, but it is what it is and once you learn what each of the main icons represent, then it is easy to get simple jobs like recording your playing along with the higher quality audio track a virtual breeze.

It doesn’t make much sense why any video editing software would not use lots of space. They all naturally require lots of space, maybe what you are referring to is some use that space more efficiently than others. The standard practice for all video editing is to set it up so you are working on a separate hard drive from your operating system if you do a lot of video editing on a regular basis. If you only use it occasionally, just delete files you don’t need anymore after you are done with your projects. But SSD drives are so cheap, there is no excuse not having enough space.

Unless working with very old computers, most folks have huge solid state system drives and don’t need to worry about space issues at all. I have a 1TB NVMe system drive and there really was no reason for me to use a separate hard drive to video editing because I don’t use it often enough. But if I had an older system that used a smaller SSD drive, then I would set it up so that it used a separate high capacity SSD drive.

I guess it also depends on what you consider a lot of space to be. I use FinalCut now and it’s similar to DaVinci in that it stores intermediary results and temporary files that gobble up space. For a video with source files of around 500Mbytes I’ve seen FinalCut consume upwards of 60Gbytes when creating a final video that’s not too complex. Like you , I use an external SSD. Its 2Tbyte but that’s only going to have enough capacity for 30 videos if I don’t clear out all the intermediary files on a regular basis..
                        Is it a problem? No.
But it can be a bit of a shock if you’re not prepared for it.

thanks guys, space isn’t my problem. Understanding software difficulty without one on one tutoring is. That stuff is complicated.
