Hi Jesse,
On Mac, go to the jam track where is says “download mp3” and use 2 fingers on the touchpad (or right-click it) to get a menu. Select “Save Link As” and save it to your desktop.
Open a Garageband project (mark the right key and the right tempo). Position the cursor in the upper left corner somewhere on the light grey empty area and move the window to the side so you can see the desktop. Locate the jam track you have downloaded on your desktop and drag it over to the GB window and drop it at the beginning of the audio track.
Let me know if that helps or you need more instructions.

thanks for you response JoLa… i havent been able to save directly to desktop yet…seems to take me a couple of steps which saves the mp3 to my itunes music library on my 2009 mac where I then drag it to the desktop and then onto garage band . i have a 2009 mac and a 2018 macbook pro and dont know much about either one ? just got an iphone after having samsungs forever…and hope to figure out the video and recording process so i can send in monthly projects im working on. Your submissions are very professional sounding and looking …. I have some friends who are going to help get me up to speed . If you have any suggestions without taking up your time I appreciate any direction . Best, Jesse

thx Livio…when i right key The timeline my options are loop, open audio in new tab, save audio as…, copy audio address, cast…, inspect. i clicked save audio as…and it found it’s way to my music library …old itunes library and i was able to drag it to my desktop, and then successfully drag it into garage band . Thanks for the help. I had done this before a few weeks ago but forgot the steps and what options to use. Jesse

Hey Jesse – put your cursor over the jamtrack in the lesson where it says “Download File”. Then Control-click and a small window with several choices will open. One of the choices will be “Download linked file”. Click that, and the file will go straight into your Downloads folder. Easy Peazy.
Once you have it in your Downloads folder, open GarageBand. Now open your Finder app (the left-most icon at the bottom of your screen) and it will open on top of GarageBand. Now just drag the jamtrack anywhere onto the Garageband track area and it will happen. Voila!
Ask again if you have any problems, because this is an essential thing you need to know how to do.

hi Steve, Thanks..I have recently started to get familiar with garage band and using my 2009 MAC to learn although I do have a newer 2018 Macbook pro. The shortcut you point out doesn’t seem to offer a “download linked file” option . Here is my note to another member who responded, and thanks again. Jesse

Hmmm, maybe you need to upgrade the operating system on your older Mac. If you still have the original OS on it, then that’s the problem. I have 2 MacBooks, one with El Capitan and one with Mojave, and both give the “download linked file” option. If you click on the little Apple symbol in the upper left corner of your screen and click “About this Mac” you can see which OS your older Mac has. Upgrading to a newer version is an easy and worthwhile thing to do. Since your Mac is older, you might not want to go to the very latest versions of OS. I think I would choose Sierra or High Sierra. Here’s an article on how to do it:

i think the term apple assigns to my 2009 MAC is obsolete or ancient or just outdated and old…running High Sierra on it. Macbook pro running BigSur . I literally started trying to use garage band about a month ago and just using the old Mac as a work station. Can’t upgrade garage band and running 6.0.05 which gets what I want to do done for now. Just checked my Macbook and the option ” download linked file” doesn’t appear there either ??? I managed to get a dozen or so backing tracks loaded onto garage band last night via my extra steps process. I like the reality check this is giving me by recording the lessons….
