What is it and is Waylon Jennings an example of it. I loved his sound. I am a BIG fan of Waylon (RIP). I’m not new to the world (I’m 65) but I am new to learning to play the guitar. It’s probably obvious by the question I just asked but I play the radio a LOT better than I play the guitar but I am serious about learning. So have patience with me fellow pickers.
I’ve some pretty HARD skin forming on the ends of my fingers, so maybe I’m doing something right.
I want to play for my daughters and have them say….gee dad I did’nt know you could do that and not say …. what ta heck WAS that?

          Gary,
I love Waylon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only Daddy That’ll Walk the Line. They just don’t make them that way anymore. I am 58, and alot of times the radio does play better than me too. Over my life I have tried many insturments. Even Steel Guitar. That was a train wreck. I could not grasp it at all.At around 14 I started banjo, the origonal style that you you play with no picks called Clawhammer. Lost interest. Then the blues harmonica thing. Back on guitar playing open slide stuff. I finally got some lessons with a guy that got me into finger picking and playing slide too. About four years ago I got another banjo and realized its open tuning stuff and bingo. I am making cool music.
I play alot of songs. Then after subscribing to a guitar mag I start finger picking again. I enjoy it. I have a new Telecaster, (made in mexico and its killer man) and with the help of this site i am getting good at guitar. And loving it. I will never be a pro and there are many that are better than me, but I don’t care. I enjoy the fact I can play some tunes and people like it. This is a great site to be at. Do it at your own pace. Guitar takes time. You will have many ah ha moments. It will be enjoyable.

Well, I think I have an answer for you guys on how to hear songs/albums/artists we like or from our youth…

I don’t have a Facebook account, but my kids do and they subscribe to this smart phone app called “Spotify.” It’s amazing! You can search for artist, tracks, or albums and play them complete. Additionally, you can pick the same and play a radio station with the artist and similar type music like Pandora. What I really like is searching for an artist and then looking at their albums, picking one and playing it through my radio or bluetooth it to my car radio. Today was a Commander Cody & T-Bone day. 🙂
