August 2026 Challenge Response – Michael Krailo

If anyone has gone through and learned the licks in the Lead Guitar Course which is part of every members course content, you will know about some of the more challenging licks that are included. The one I am attempting to do here has really ruffled my feathers. I don’t know if it’s the timing or what, but this really took a lot of work just to get it to this point. Still doesn’t sound like the way Brian does it, but it’s the best I can do for now.

It’s Pattern #1 Lick #13

I’ll demo it slowly at the beginning of the video so you can see and hear which one I’m talking about.

Great lick to use in a solo and a great lick to use repeatedly thoughout to make the solo memorable. I would have liked to see it an octave higher and even continued on into a longer phrase. You followed the changes very nicely.

Come on, it’s hard enough playing it down low. I tried it up high and it was twice as hard to get my fingers working up there for some reason, so I avoided it. 🙂 I’ll keep working at it.

Micheal, the first time you hit the C note after the trill I would use my middle finger and then, when you return for the bend, I would use my ring finger there. I think that makes it easier up the octave, too.

A great solo and yes, a very catchy lick!
Very difficult to get the timing, tempo and fretting all down to create the lick..well done 👍🎶🎵

It all sounds really impressive, including the difficult parts.
We shouldn’t forget that we’re all amateurs and Brian is the professional teacher.
But the group has a strong drive to keep improving in a fun way, and we should be proud of that.

That’s a cool lick, Michael. Trying to fit in all those notes is indeed a challenge. Nice job of working that into the backing track and making it musical.

Hi Michael, yes, a tough lick. YOu pulled it off pretty well though. Overall your playing was soulful and a pleasure to hear. Well done!

Great blues piece, Michael! You have so many great licks, I wouldn’t you worry about lick #13 anyway.

I swear, in some of Brian’s lessons (EP203, EP178, EP135 etc etc) there are licks that even when he shows them in slow motion, I swear he must be lying. LOL!
