Hi Friends,
So, I found a simple chord sequence that I liked on acoustic guitar (am/F/C/G – the Guild is de-tuned half a step & capo’d 1st fret btw) – so that’s vi/IV/I/V in the key of C, but I guess it could be thought of in other ways too. I played it with a 6/8 feel.
Next I just hummed/sang along using notes from the chords as they passed. I found a few options & this is the one that stuck.
From there I made a backing track of acoustic guitar, bass, drums (drums c/o Logic) and synth pad …. then I played the hook on acoustic and electric guitar.
32 seconds I think 🙂
Thank you for listening
Gary

Certainly had a nice and memorable feel to it Gary. With embellishments that would stand out wonderfully well as a Hook.

Articulate and packaged in 32 secs with a lot of substance, an earworm already. A taste of things to come Gary.

That’s really the spirit of the exercise. It’s remarkable how something so simple and repetitive can be so satisfying.
I think you could have a future in the business. Maybe a nice home in Nashville?
BTW, the recorded sound of the acoustic was beautiful. What instrument was used to first double the melody, I couldn’t quite make it out?

Definitely my favorite one so far. Now that’s a hook.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

That’s the ticket. Short, very sweet and in the ear. I like that little variation where there’s an extra little pause/ghost note before the slide down a tone. Its a little unexpected in a good way.

That is really a hook, Gary. Sounds somehow familiar after the first time listening. Now I can hum along too.

Beautifully constructed and played with a lush tone from the acoustic and electric,
Love the simplicity of this ,it has a sweet melodic quality that “ hooks” the ear immediately, a great foundation to develop further.Martin

Hi Gary, I really like the instrumental mix you created. Great hook idea, simple and to the point, and sticks in the ear.

Short and sweet. I like the rhythm with the 6/8 feel.
The acoustic and electric guitar complement well.Denise from Switzerland, currently staying at the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast.

Good one, Gary. I reckon it’s the chord sequence that is the actual hook, and the melody just emphasizes it and brings it out. Excellent job on the recording!
