Can’t wait to view all the hooks over the weekend! I’m sure the variety will be wide or maybe even wild! 😃
This is the first idea that came to my head. I tried a few other hooks but this one might have had crawled into my ear and become an earworm already so I had to stick with it.
Aaaaaand yes, a new guitar! 🤦🏻♀️ Thought I was cured of GAS but … flew to Santa Cruz, Ca – just to see Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings live, walked into a music store …. and there it was, my dream guitar. Well, it’s actually the 2026 reissue of the 1960’s Silvertone 1446, a “modernized” reissue of my dream guitar. I wanted something with Bigsby, so now I gotta learn how to use that thang 😁
A 30-second song idea on a new Silvertone 1446

Hi Jola, congrats on the new guitar! Oh, I wish I had known you were going to be in Santa Cruz. I live here, we could have had lunch and hit the guitar store. Ah, well…
I like this melodic idea. It really sets a mood and creates some expectation.-

OMG, Michael, I had no idea you lived there!!! I would have totally called you! What a loss!
I loved the concert setting in the quarry, although we were the only two people that didn’t know it was gonna get cold at night, lol!
And the guitar store was “The Starving Musician” 😎🎸

I love the simplicity of this one. It can pretty much go anywhere from here so I rate this one very high on the “going to be song” category. Love your new guitar too.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Hi JoLa, congratulations on your new guitar! Very cool axe. I have never played a Silverton, this one looks great.
I like your hook, too 🙂 -

Wow, JoLa, what a beautiful opening chord. Your hook had hidden mystery behind it, something from the night yet to be revealed.
I’m not familiar with Silvertone but your new acquisition looked really good and sounded even better.

Great hook you came up with, JoLa! Sounds very pensive/reflective to me. I also like it because the hook has a clear ending or stop. Could be a great recurring motif in a murder mystery backing track.
Your new guitar looks great and sounds awesome.
I have to say that the first four notes of your riff reminded me of Friday on My Mind by the EasyBeats (1966). Another great hook in this with similar recurring notes but overall totally different. I guess creative minds think alike.

Yes! It’s a jazz hook. I notice that several of us have gone with jazzy hooks, and I wonder if that’s because you’re allowed to use some cool jazz chords and progressions which tend to capture people’s attention.

That is one great-looking and sounding axe, JoLa – no wonder you dreamt of getting this for a while 👌👌. Your submission had a lovely ethereal quality about it that is quite captivating – everything that a hook needs. – Mark 👍🎶😎

Wow! Love the new guitar, and making fine use of the Bigsby.
Definitely could be the opening to a show set in the desert. Hermanos Gutierrez influence? -

I think that was a success, Jola. It sounded like the intro that could set the tone for a complete song. Looks like you’re already making great use of the Bigsby.
Congrats on the new guitar, hope it inspires much creativity. I now feel empowered to make a new purchase.

You had me on the opening chord with that dip on the bigsby and the reverberating, ambient tone. But the hook drew me in even more, wondering where this was going to go next. Simple idea but so effective.
Congratulations on that beautiful new guitar too. When a guitar speaks to you, you have to listen right? -

I’d say that awesome guitar can only create catchy hooks, Jola. Right? But seriously: great intro that hints at a great song. It would definitely make me want to keep listening.

Dreamy hook, with a dream guitar. It has crawled into my ear too. Congrats on your new guitar, for a different sound with a Bigsby. There is no cure for GAS, but it is still a healthy sign. I did see the short on your concert attendance, what a buzz. Double bonus visit for you..

Aren’t new guitars fun? I so happy for you. It looks and sounds fantastic.
Your piece was tasteful and captivating. I’m thinking, ok-what next? Where is she taking this? Maybe we will find out next month? Cool that you went to see Dave Rawlings. It’s even cooler that you have a dream guitar and it’s now yours. That’s something special. Great stuff. Great tone. Can’t wait to hear more. Be well.😎🎸👍John

I think that opening chord and the use of the bigsby sets this up nicely , it’s a fine foundation to develop further, has a mystical sound to my ear .
Congrats on your new guitar , that was certainly meant to be just walking into the guitar shop and there it was , which makes your concert trip even more memorable.Martin
