For this month’s Active Melody Challenge, we were to record up to a 30-second hook! First I had to decide what a hook really is and I decided it was a short piece of music that would easily be recognizable and memorable. It could be an Intro or a bridge or could even be a chorus which repeats. It could be drums, guitar solo, rhythm and chords, whatever…as long as it piqued the listeners curiosity or was instantly recognizable.
So I went with a rocking rhythm with just 3 chords over a bass riff and a lead. It was fun to see the transformation as it gradually progressed to its final version!
I’m looking forward so much to hear what everybody else came up with!
Joe

Or the strength of an Oak with roots deep in the ground.

I like that simple but effective rhythm part.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Wow, Joe – that hit me right between the eyes from the very start 😂😂 I had to play it a few times to get into your timing, but once I did that, I could clearly hear the hook. – Mark 👍🎶😎

I enjoyed the ‘grunge’ Joe, definitely a down and dirty Hook.

I like the space and rhythm created by the crunchy guitar, and how the melody plays in between that . Nice work!

Nice one, Joe! Love the grunge-y sound of it, a great way to start a song or a chorus. Nice production as well, did not know you played bass, too!

Energy packed 17secs, imagine a whole song from this. I can. Hope this will progress further to a full song production. Multi-instrumental production. Well done, Joe.
