Thanks for highlighting this interview JoLa.
I joined Active Melody in 2011 and have watched and learnt a lot over those intervening years. During this interview Brian was critical of his performances in those early years, however he was still head & shoulders above anyone else at the time.

Brian always comes over as a humble and likeable character, we all know his talents as a teacher and musician even though he somewhat plays it down but, we all know different. Brian’s strength as a teacher and enthusiasm for guitar is contagious and probably the main reason why Active Melody is so successful.

The interviewer mentioned being influenced by Ted Greene. I looked up info on him and that must have been so confusing to learn using his method of bombarding students with every possible variation on a chord.

I liked that little snippet of Brian teaching the blending of E major and E minor pentatonic to play the blues. I could see and understand exactly what he was explaining. It’s so awesome to just know how all of this actually works now.

Now I know Brian’s story. So glad he is doing what he loves to do. And that video with Tomo was very insightful as it pertained to vibrato technique.
