Brian often posts lessons with percussive accompaniment, which I find quite challenging.
On this topic, I came across an interesting video that explains and demonstrates the slap technique in detail.
The author says that many people struggle with this technique because they try to do it too quickly.
That’s why he breaks it down into 5 exercises, each with very small steps, which I think are very effective.
I’ve already decided to try these exercises; maybe some of you will find them interesting, too.
Unfortunately, the video is only in German, but if you open it on YouTube, you can click on the English subtitles.

Thanks Dieter,
That is a very useful and well presented Thumb Slap lesson.
I’ve always been drawn to this percussive guitar style, it seems to give the piece a dynamic edge to the rhythm or melody.
Brian posted a similar lesson some while back ML061. I’ve posted a couple of derivations of it here on AM.

Jola is the most skilled Slapmeister among us AM members. She has the cleanest slap of any of us. Maybe she could give us all some pointers sometime.
