I just found this ridiculously cheap DIY kit with great reviews

I just might get a Tele this summer 🙂

Hi Vojtech
I bought the Strat version of this kit a year ago and had great fun building it, At that time the kit was only 68 euros so I wasn’t expecting much. For the money it’s amazing. I played it in the November Challenge (EP174) and received quite a few comments on the nice sound it made. I learned a lot about setting up guitars and how they work and it was worth it for that alone. I also have an American Standard Tele (1400 euros) just like Bryce’s new guitar, same finish, is my Thomann kit guitar as good as the tele? ……… No!! ………. but it ain’t far short! I play the Strat a lot and am constantly surprised by the quality. I have set it up well with quite a low action and that makes it pretty easy to play. At this price I suppose there’s not much quality control so they may vary a bit.
Just an account of my experience Vojtech.

Vojtech,
Looks like a great project. The price seems good and the reviews seem fine. I hope you decide to build this kit and can give us detailed updates as you build. I have often thought about doing something like this but have not made the jump yet.

These Les Paul copies are the top rated on amazon.com:
They cost $140 US.

Vojtech – super cheap and super fun for sure. Martyn, I check out your Strat from the Nov challenge and I’m impressed! Did you spray paint yours yellow? Looks great.

@bluesguitarlvr
Hi Tim
Yes I painted it with a brush and some left over yellow paint. Previously I’d sanded it down with some very fine sandpaper. I finished it with several coats of a can of spray gloss varnish. It looks ok from the back row!! I’m not averse to spending tons of money on guitars, I have and I will in the future possibly, but this seemed like a great little project for not much money. I wasn’t expecting to be able to use it for serious playing though!! The setup was the important element I think.
On another tack yesterday I was doing a bit of DIY and hit my index finger on my left hand with the hammer! No guitar playing for a bit then. Ah well.

Martyn,
I’ll have to buy one of these kits just for fun.
Ouch! Stay away from the DIY for a while….
All the best,

All I can think about is – what finish can I give it? 🙂

Well I got a no-no today from the wife.
Where will we put it?
Why we bought an expensive one (MIM Strat) when now you want to build your own?
What are you gonna do with it, you already have one?I mean, what’s the point of living now.
