I recently found this CD in the cut out bin, probably paid $4-$5 for it. Well worth it. I’ve always liked Howlin’ Wolf’s voice and knew that Hubert Sumlin is well known as one of the greats from the Chicago Blues scene.
This album is a great showcase of Hubert’s playing. He’s not SRV or Clapton but for the era that he came through, he is exception.
The title of the 2nd tune would probably be seen as racist today but it is one of the better tunes for Hubert’s playing. The entire CD is good but Hubert’s licks on this song really caught my ear -

Them lyrics are why I liked my childhood. So innocent them times were.
The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

I think that we have lost the ability to laugh at ourselves and many have become insecure in themselves to the point that they either cry foul over any little thing or they have to tear others down.
I used to watch Home Improvement religiously and probably could quote many of the early episodes. I think one of the reasons that it was so popular was that many of us could relate to ‘accidents’ that Tim The Tool Man Taylor had and most of all to the blunders. There are probably a lot of could relate to those antics b/c we’ve done thing ourselves and then looked around to see if anyone had noticed
I taught my sons early on to not use racial slurs but my oldest son had a friend in his teen years that is from Kenya. Richard is a very unique young man in many ways but he has such a great sense of humor that allows him to laugh at himself and other in a non-demeaning manner. I’ve heard him say things about himself being black and laugh about it. He would joke to the white kids and laugh at them and then turn the joke on himself, To me, its a great way to not carry the weight of an offense. Life is too short to do that
