Here it is then, my long awaited foray in to the world of electric guitars and what better way to get myself up and playing than to this wonderful song by Brian.
A few things I couldn’t master, believe me it wasn’t for the lack of trying. I could not quite master the pull off while holing a note with another finger and i could not quite figure out how to fit in the double stops..
I hope you all like this, I am really proud of myself right now and I am grinning like a cheshire cat..
Thanks for all the support and encouragement..https://soundcloud.com/billy-897485295/ep153-can-i-be-electric-too

Not exactly the easiest lesson to go electric on, but I thought you did very well. Good playing of a great lesson, and a nice start in the electric world of guitar. I look forward to your next one.
Few can play as well as Brian note for note. Fortunately we don’t need to in order to sound good.
Nice job Billy. -

Billy M,
That was a great start! You deserve a wee dram of Scotch for that! (Maybe more than a wee dram……)

Do you play with the thumb of your fretting hand wrapped around the neck? For me pull offs and hammer ons are easier to do if I use just the very tips of my fingers and have my thumb on the back of the neck. Everybody’s mileage varies on this.

That was just played wonderfully. The Sound and the Timing is great. Something to Enjoy!

Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

I try not to try and wrap my thumb around the neck, small hands are what I have.. It was a difficult pull off. I had to pull off to a held note and then hammer on the 5th fret. I think i covered it well by just doing a slide and a quick hammer on..

Well now, that wasn’t so bad! I think it will not be long before you will be needing the services of a manager.. 😉
great job man!
Don't practice till you get it right, practice till you can't get it wrong.

How would you describe playing electric over playing acoustic?

Going electric in itself was quite a daunting task. With acoustic you know what you are getting as soon as you strum the stings, Electric you need to dabble with amps and pedals and all manner of things..
Now having said that, It wasnt as daunting a task to find a sound I liked with a slight tweak of the amp settings..
Electric strings are easier to knock out of tune with finger pressure than acoustic strings are and I understand now why the Luthier in the guitar shop the other week said to me. no manufacturer builds a guitar with perfect tuning…
I have been playing my lAg acoustic tonight and the neck feels big and bulky in my hand compared to my wee strat type guitar, and now all I want to do is play slow blues on an electric..
