        Hi,

I really like EP156 as Brian plays it

but when I play it, the open strings make lots of noise . I just hit the strings 2,3,4,5 but as I move up to the next fret by fret, the ringing of open strings (2 and 4) makes the whole thing sound somewhat too much.

I tried on both acoustic and electric and I can’t get anywhere near as crisp as Brian plays it

        Any trick to this?

I think the only trick to this is practice and time. i have started learning this lesson too. There is no way we should expect to sound anywhere near to Brian after just one day (or ever) of learning it. It sometimes takes me weeks to sound even half decent on a lesson, and this one is exceptionally difficult. However, that will make it that much more rewarding after putting in a lot of time. Also, once you have a grasp of how this piece goes, i would strongly suggest taking it extremely slow for a while. Use the sound slice tab viewer and slow it way down. Then after a while you can gradually increase the tempo. You will be surprised at the progress you will make, just know that it will take a lot of time and work. Brian is obviously a much better player than we are, but it gives us motivation and a feeling of satisfaction to see ourselves improve over time. One more thing, try and record yourself now and then do it again after working on this lesson for a while. That is how you can see your own improvement and progress. i do that all the time….scott.

@Behrouz F, the open 2 and 4 strings are supposed to ring out (or drone) up until Brian does a muted upstroke just before hitting a downstroke on the sliding E6 chord. There’s no way around them ringing as you play the ascending E chord riff.

Thank you guys — much appreciated

i knew they havd to ring, i was just being to harsh on the poor strings — too much noise

I figured what my problem was,

              1. i Was holding the pick too tight — had to loosen the grip to let the pick brush and not rake — funny thing is that my grip is usually loose without even thinking while strumming, not sure why i was choking the pick here

              2. instead of going straight up/down, i did a slight circular using the wrist

now to the hard part of learning the whole thing to play fluently

              once again — thank you
